I have a 1996 Pathfinder 4 wheel drive with 120,000 miles on it that has a "sway" problem. The sway can occur at any time but usually on the highway (at any speed). The body starts rocking side to side and if the speed is maintained, it gets gets worse. Letting off the gas or increasing speed will make it stop. The truck has new shocks and struts but the problem has not improved. The front end was just aligned and checked for suspension wear. Tires have been balanced and rotated. Has any one else exhibited this problem or have any ideas?
Thanks.

I also put a new stabilizer bar on the rear but still no improvement.

My car did the samething, I had noticed that my rear stabilizer bar was not intact...turns out I had hit a dip and snapped the bolts to it.went to the deal, spent 50 bucks on bolts and rubber boots and put the bar back in place per my Haynes manual. fixed the problem for me

hope this helps

the different guy is sweet. Get the hub fixed first. Your pathfinder is definitely a off street motor vehicle and isn't any longer a Lexus. That being suggested commence with the suspension in case you opt for to beef it up a touch. The rear shocks is a commence. examine your sway bar that still will reason some instability. something loose suspension sensible can cuase what you're conversing about. no longer a large challenge on that motor vehicle. solid success!

make sure that the rear control arms to the rear differential assy are not cracked or broken . also front wheel bearings can cause excessive play in front suspension causing steering to be unstable .. based on your description i would also check for a bad universal joint in drive shaft if will cause vibrations to rear differential
