hi, if your wondering if you have ether ADD or ADHD and don't want to pay the money to get it diagnosed you can buy the book "driven to distraction" by Edward m hallowell and john j Ratey both of which are doctors who have lived lifelong with ADHD. The book is organized so that a person with a short attention span can read it and it is geared to adult ADHD and to living with this disorder. it goes through signs and symptoms. But it all so talks about turning the negatives into positives. It really is the best book around alot of people including my self read it and think hey that's me. If you read the book you will have a better idea if you could have ADD and at that point i would go to see a doctor about it but the book should give you a very good idea.

Meditation is a wonderful aid for dealing with this. Perhaps you have not gone about it in the right way. This is the method that definitely worked for me. You sit in a darkened room without any distractions. Best to sit upright, keeping the spine as straight as possible. Decide on a definite duration you will meditate. Maybe 15 min initially. BUT DO NOT CUT IT SHORT. The initial objective is to get detached from the constant, never ending flow of thoughts in the mind. Just watch the thoughts arise and ebb but do not get involved in them - simply give no attention to them and one by one they go away. After a time the flood of thoughts will start to slow down and you will start to feel a relief and a peacefulness and even a relaxation in the body from not getting caught up with them. You will find that you can then prolong this thought free state for longer periods. This is the desired goal. The next time you sit to meditate it will be easier to maintain. And eventually you can have prolonged periods of no mental activity. Of course, there are greater rewards of meditating but this state of mindlessness is the first goal. Then, even when not having this formal sitting meditation process, in your normal everyday life, you will find yourself starting to enjoy not getting involved in the many countless thoughts. It gives you a wonderful sense of freedom - of self mastery. And it enables you to start observing how others are dictated to by their ever chattering minds. Then, with this new found ability, you will find you can focus on giving your FULL attention to anything you choose. It might be of slight duration initially, but as you are retraining your mind bit by bit you will find you can extend that concentration for ever longer periods. I hope this is helpful. I encourage you to try it. Others, like myself found it beneficial to meditate in the company of someone who had completely mastered the art of meditation. For a number of years I lived in meditation ashrams and traveled with a world renowned, highly respected Indian meditation teacher called Swami Muktananda and followed a highly concentrated daily practice of meditation. Swami M. wrote many books for beginners of meditation and they are available online - on ebay, as most are out of print. (Enter Swami Muktananda on Google search). There is a best time to meditate. That is early in the morning as it's better then before the mind gets active. In the ashram we use to meditate at 5am everyday. I wish you the best.

talk to your doctor, but start by writing your feelings, thoughts down in the meantime, go back to them later and see what kind of sense or non-sense they make. See how many times a day this happens and share it with your doctor. Racing thoughts can be controlled with/without meds, but you have to look at your options first through medical professional help. Good Luck - keep going and going, you'll be fine.

Before you need to concentrate , take a few DEEP breathes and tell yourself, "now calm down and think straight". Will yourself to concentrate.
