My throat has been driving me insane for the past few years. I always get these long, thick, ropey strands of mucus stuck in my throat, and I will try for about 20 minutes to cough it up, but it is stuck and WONT come out. So i end up coughing and snorting all the time and its really gross, and it lasts for several days at a time. Does anybody have this and know what to do about it? Are there any medications available or treatments to make this go away?!?

put about 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 1/2 cup of very warm water and gargle several times (until it is gone). do it 2 to 3 times a day. the mucus will break up and your throat will heal.

have you tried taking mucinex? that'll help you cough up the mucus. the sore throat probably came about from the irritation in your throat due to the presence of the mucus and the actual coughing itself. for the sore throat there isn't much to do for the long term. most medicines only work temporarily. try keeping some kind of candy with you to suck on. it helps because it keeps your throat moistened which helps with the irritation. also ibuprofen is pretty helpful with the pain but remember to take it with food as it can be irritating to the stomach and you don't want to get sick, causing more throat irritation. if this still keeps up you definitely wanna talk to your doctor as you may need tested for strep or another illness

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Sounds like a bad case of severe allergies, I would go to a doctor. If it is allergies, ask for Allegra-D and a nasal spray.

You need to see an otorhinolaryngologist (ENT). This does not sound normal.
