My grandfathers name is Manfred Hutchinson. I do not know is fathers name. all i know is that he was from scottland.

Potato famine happened in Ireland, not Scotland. Both Celtic people, but two different islands.

if you have not tried the free trail version of ancestry.com. you can used it to trace your surname back to the united kingdom. If you have tried the free version of ancestry.com you can go to any public library to use their free version of ancestry.com. just call your local librarian for details. sorry, did not read your whole question. The potatoes famine is where you want to start using Hutchinson, many Scottish escape this problem by heading to America. some stop into Jamaica because there was more money to be make in a bigger manner. ancestry has the immigration list for Ellis island. and Miami 's freedom tower. these places had more people coming from Scotland and moving on to Jamaica then any other place in America. use the place where your father was born as a starting point.

And right now you can get a free membership for 3 days. I went in and was able to back date my ancestors to the 700's. I was amazed. Also you can see what famous people your related to. Good luck.
