War is part of life it is both good and bad like anything else. In war the enemy is not evil when you go onto the battlefield to do what is right and defend your family, country and beliefs the person you are trying to kill is a good person trying to defend his family, country, and beliefs. Both sides are trying to do the right thing but more often then not what is good for one group is bad for another so when words and negotiations fail a lot of good people die.

1. War is the only resolution to problems that cannot be solved by words. If two people want something bad enough to die for it and there is no way for them both to have it then no matter how many words you say you will not reach a compromise.

2. There are many times that there are resource shortages or other problems that make it so that there is not enough for everyone. Since humans have a inborn survival instinct and instincts to protect those close to them no matter how you say it you will not get large groups of people to say your town or country should have the food or fuel and we will starve or freeze. So they will fight until one side wins and gets the resources or they both lose enough people for them to go around.

I know people in first world counties like America cannot understand this because we have more then enough to go around, but how often to you see war in places with more then enough to go around? If it is between your kids starving to death or going to war I know which one I would pick.

3. The only way to get rid of war is to get rid of freedom. Completely regulation of everyone is the only way to get rid of war. Make a world religion, regulate how many kids people can have, control what jobs people have.

But that kind of control usually results in a single source supply style of economy. This is very inflexible and will always fail. So really the only way to get rid of war is to kill everyone on earth.
Also since even a nuclear holocaust would not kill everyone war is here to stay.

4. Life is not pretty and there is not always a good choice. Some times you have to pick the lesser of two evils. Reality is what it is and pretending that the world does not work the way it does will do nothing but make you think everyone else is stupid.

“Peace takes everyone in the world wanting it, working together, and being willing to suffer, die and watch those they love die for the ideal of peace. War takes one man not on board with the plan.” -me

See a lot of "wisdom quotes" here, not exactly in the words of those who origianlly spoke them or wrote them down for future generations but humanity, in the main, somehow recognizes the futlity of war.
#1: it cannot be undone. Has there ever been a war where people who were innocent of any wrong doing were not killed? To kill an enemy who is in the wrong is one thing but to have men live accepting the belief that killing an innocent is acceptable lowers the cause and the morales which you fight for into barbarity.
#2: A war once unleashed takes on a characteristic of its own. Battel plans go awry, needless property destruction, childs minds and mens also change and who knows the damages or dangers those thoughts take at a future date.
#3: War has a majesty to some, whereby the case for the making of the war takes second place to the making of war to make war.
Where a man defending home and hearth from danger changes into a warrior and the lure of warfare is more charming even than a womans arms or a childs needs for love. Worse yet it changes them into the very thing they fought against in first place.

It is necessary: I'm not talking Imperialism, no manner what people may think, but because people of different races and religions can't get along and there is always a tyrannical leader popping up somewhere who wants to take some other country over.

It should not be the territory of the media: Yes, people desire to know what is happening to their soldiers, but today's media sticks itself in the way and prints things that the enemy should not know. You can cram your "freedom of speech and the press" into what hole you may find when it comes to the safetly of our soldiers. Even if all it prevents is a single scratch.

It should be the territory of the servicemen and women: The armchair Generals in political positions have no place to be making the decisions for something they have not experienced. Most have never seen a shot fired in anger other than on TV. Ted Kennedy would only be worried about bringing his liqour cabinet.

JMHO

NOTE: The questioner asked for reasons, i.e. why do you have that opinion? None of you are answering it and Jo's answer must be the most idiotic isolationist answer yet.

1) War is natural. Humanity has been waging war since humanity began keeping histories - and almost certainly before. Humans, by and large, are simply violent creatures. A quick perusal of history bears out the fact that we humans rarely miss a chance to fight or otherwise do violence upon ourselves.

2) War and the threat of solidifies society. Binds us with national unity (nationalism) and commonality of cause. Us vs Them. Individuals with common beliefs congregate and form societies. Bonds are formed, beliefs codified and a sense of community forms. War is little more than the natural clash of ideas today having been born of resource allocation in history. Homo Erectus migrated from N. Africa into Europe where the now extinct Neanderthals lived. These Neanderthals lived in the best caves located near water and fertile hunting grounds. Which Homo Erectus wanted. No one knows for sure, but we do know that Homo Erectus appeared in Europe and the Neanderthals disappeared with their arrival. My money is on resource war...Homo Erectus simply killed them all off. No longer do we fight for caves...but for ideals. And, ironically enough, oil (a resource).

3) War is necessary. The human population is fast approaching 6B. Many scientists (Google for them) believe that Earth is rapidly approaching the limit of supportable human life. To continue at this rate of population growth, the Earth will no longer be able to sustain human life. The result, alluded to above, is a war of resources...whether it be water or oil or arable land. Now war becomes a tool of natural selection...killing off those humans who cannot fight for life giving necessities. Population control, the natural way.

War always sucks but if bandits jump you, you have to kick butt back or else . . . they come jump you again because they know they can.

After the attack on NYC the US needed a base in the region with resources (and since there were a number of low life dictators , it was decided to "unplug" one of them - Saddam drew the short straw) The WMD pretext was available and he had recently attacked Kuwait so the jump went down.
The search and capture / destroy mission of al-Qaeda did not go as well as hoped but multinational efforts have put a crimp in some of their $$$$ chain.

No. WW3 is executed. WW3 became once the chilly warfare. it really is been over for decades. that is only sparkling up. Which, of route, is element of WW 4. the picture of WW1 cleanup led into WW2, and WW2's cleanup ended interior the "chilly warfare." which became once absolutely a international conflict, and thence would must be seen WW3, mess united statescannot renounce. issues do no longer distinction. it really is an prolonged-time period continuum, and not using a transparent delineations. the historic Greeks did all this crap already, understood it, misunderstood it, and defined all of it. They understood the commonly used complexities of the human subject, which contains horrendous political power struggles. placed on your seat belt. it really is gonna be a wild journey.

Patton was right. Everything else pales to insignificance.
Second place really sucks in a war.
If you love peace, always prepare for war.

War is not controlled by those who make it, it is too weird to be controlled. It's more like a hurricane, it just shows up.
Be a happy warrior. Not every day you can kill a man, and get paid to do it.

1 If you want to remain independent you must be prepared to fight!

2 If you're the aggressor, or fight someone else’s war, you are off sides out of bounds.

3 If you are really looking for answers, why dictate demands on how to answer?
