Would some Fundamentalist Christians try to prevent scientists from diverting it?

They would probably tell everyone to let it hit since they seem pretty fascinated with doomsday. Just type revalations in the search for questions thingy and you'll see how many of them get wet dreams talking about it.

If it was going to cause a mass-extinction then they'd have to be more than mere fundamentalists. They'd have to be fanatical, passionate, fundamentalists, with the same vigorous faith as a suicide cult.

Even most fundamentalists don't really want to die.

They'd be praising God for the meteor coming to destroy the evil of the world while blissfully ignorant that they too would be dying in the same catastrophe.
