In order to become a Police Officer, among other credentials, you need to be able to speak and write English well. This is important in order to effectively communicate with the public, and write reports and other official documents. People that apply to the law enforcement community that are bilingual are sometimes more sought after. You should be aware that many larger departments have an age cap to apply. Meaning that if you are older then a given age that the department enacts into their policies and procedures you will not be considered for the position. Around my area the age cap is around thirty-five.

Police academies are physically and mentally demanding. Most police departments including their corresponding academy are paramilitary. In one of the academies I attended my platoon had eleven drill instructors including our senior drill sergeant. The drill instructors demanded perfection in everything we did.

As far as whether or not you should consider a career in law enforcement only you can decide. Law enforcement is not as glamorous as many young people think. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and sacrifice; which usually goes unappreciated. Your decision should not be made lightly. You should talk it over with your family and possibly close friends, as they will probably be your only source of support during very tough times. However, this career path also offers many rewards if you have a high regard for the peace, protection and safety of human life. Good luck.

All you need to know is how to impede someones personal and civil rights and your good to go.
Ever ask to fill out a complaint against an officer? Try it first. Have you ever been slapped in the head for refusal to allow a search of personal property and then had them do it anyway? You will also find that anyone outside of your race or income instantly becomes a prime suspect. These are the things you'll be doing and if that sounds good to you, go ahead.
Carte blanche is the name of the game.

Why not check your local government's website? It should have your PD listed, along with recruiting requirements.

If you speak Italian and/or some other language that'd be an asset too. Consider that.
