I am an orthopedic surgical tech and have thousands of arthroscopes and total knee replacements. Yes arthroscopies can lead to you having to have a total done.If you shave out the cartilage that keeps the femur and tibia from rubbing together it can lead to a joint replacement. Weight bearing x-rays and your pain tolerance will determine when you are ready for a joint replacement. You should try and make it till you are 65 before you have this done. Once you hear your Dr. use the term "bone on bone" expect your replacement in the next couple of years. Having your scope done was probably not a bad thing if it got rid of your pain and removed tissues that caused impingement and could have done more damage to your joint. The age thing is really important here..........wish I knew your age

The muscles related to the knees are usually ones in your quads that are tight.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

You are probably just looking at some srthritis in the future. If they "cleaned out" your knee, you probably just had some loose cells from the tear. It takes MUCH MORE SEVERE problems to constitute a knee replacement. You would have to have bad bone health or SEVERAL bad breaks or dislocations to need replacing.

I had a torn meniscus last year. Removed with Arthoscopy. They said it could eventually lead to arthritis but it all depends on age and activity. I play tennis recreationally and used to run but I don't want to risk it. I'm in mid 30's. My knee is 100% better though!

No orthoscopic surgery does not lead to knee replacements. Knee replacments are done when the joint just plain wears out and cause pain that is unbearable enough that you can;t walk or climb stairs.

Shouldn't your ortho doctor be the one to answer your questions? If you do not get the needed answers from him, then you may have to see another one who can. Get your money's worth!
