I read that, in history, Christians have collectively killed more ( ie: the crusades...) innocent people then both World Wars combined. Could someone please shed some light on whether or not this is true? And I don't want to hear from any of you that are going to make up facts purely for the sake of making your religion look good. I'm an educated man so save your saving for someone else.

Wow. Well, it's quite obvious to see which ones of you are Christians. Just find the responses where, instead of READING the question, you instantly took offense and responded on the defensive, many times even questioning my integrity/intelligence. I did NOT say I believed this. I did NOT say that this was true or not true. and I certainly DID NOT suggest, in ANY way, that I believe Christians to be murderous animals. But you're quite the cliche Jesus Freak, if your first response was to get upset and feed me some crap about how every religion is guilty of murder...people are generally violent...blah blah blah. Thank you, but I already knew these things. Go debate Atheist and satanist, not people who are here to learn and question. To those of you who answered...Thank you for your assistance.

Let's see, in the 2000 years of Christianity, how many people were killed by Christians compare with all other killed by non Christians.

How many people were killed by the Muslims? For example, the number of Indians (from India) killed?

How many people were killed by the Khans?

Do you really think one group kills less because of religion?

Your history source is not history, but twisting of the facts. Yes the Europeans sent armies to the holy land after the Muslims invaded it. How many Christian and Muslims were killed? Better yet how many people were killed?

Here is a fact 40 million people die in WWII (25 million Russians). Do you honestly believe 40 million people died in the Crusades?

If you are an educated man, you will should know better. Tell me how many people died by Muslims in spreading Islam? Do I count the Khans?

One last point: Great Britain, France, Germany, and United States are Christian countries, therefore the number killed by those countries would count as well.

It depends on how you count those. I doubt that the number of those killed in the Crusades was more than both World Wars combined.

However, if you want to say that Christians killed people in general, there were about 90 million people alone killed in the New World. It may not have been as many as that, but that's the highest number I've heard given, albeit by some very left-wing historians.

But if we grant that this is true, one could argue that "Christians" killed all those people, because it was "Christians" who came to the New World. Whether they were killing in the name of Christ, or just for opportunism, can be debated.

Also, keep in mind that the vast majority of those killed in the New World were not killed directly. Most were killed off by European diseases, which the natives in the New World had no resistance against. I believe the biggest killer was smallpox.

That's not to let the Europeans off the hook; they did very little to help the natives survive smallpox epidemics, and in some cases even encouraged the disease, by giving them infested items, such as clothing, blankets, etc.

However, there is plenty of blame to go around. Hindus and Buddhists have slaughtered each other for centuries. Africa has always been a killing field amongst the native peoples there. In the New World, Indian tribes savagely attacked other tribes, etc.

Also, remember the 20th century. The Communists killed nearly 100 million people (counting the USSR, China, Cambodia, etc). They killed more people than the Nazis did (although the Nazis were only around for 12 years, they probably would have matched the Commies if they hadn't been defeated).

The Communists were not "Christians." In fact, they REJECTED Christianity. Incidentally, the Fascists also rejected Christianity, although they sometimes couched their rhetoric in Christian imagery. Ultimately, the Nazis wanted to do away with all modern religion, and go back to the ancient Teutonic worship practices. Hitler even said that "Christianity is a disease," and "One cannot be both Christian AND German at the same time."

If you were really an educated man, you wouldn't be asking a question like this in this forum. What are you asking for. Facts? Or for a rationalization? A denial? Can you provide some evidence of numbers and instances of these killings so we can talk about this more intelligently? And if what you claim is true, what does it prove? The all Christians are murderers? That the God of the Bible encourages killing? That people tend to not live by what they believe? What's the point you are trying to make?

The crusades were a result of the apostacy which was already brewing in the true Christian churches in Jesus' day. Once the apostles had all passed in death, there was nothing stopping the dissention. Worse than that, the false Christians soon began to organize into false religions (called Babylon the Great) in Revelation. I am quite pleased to report that Jehovah's Witnesses are not now and have not been participating in war and killing. I am sure there are others.

mal: Christians have murdered no one BUT people who practice religion have or do. The crusades were religious based hence, Religion verses Religion. Both, subscribe to faulty theology and look to a man or once-human that started their religion. Christianity is established on relationship -spirituality not religion nor by a flesh and blood being [man]. Dysfunctional religion breeds faulty theology, which in turn, breeds hate and hurt.
By the way, your information presented failed to include Atheists such as, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler - all mass murders in the countless millions.

No,not true in the least.I would suggest that the person you heard this from, needs to get an education in history.
Ther Crusades were sparked after Muslim conquest, and yes,did kill many innocents, but certainly not millions.
The Inquisition killed a few thousand, including non-Catholic Christians.
World War I caused the death of 40 million,World War II the death of around 60 million.
Christians have certainly not killed over 100 million over the centuries.Do not listen to blatant propagand, because you have heard wrongly.Just ask any historian.

Back when every European was a Christian, I'd say that religion was used a great deal as a reason for war. Politics also had an influence, but the Black Plague wiped out 1/3 of the known world in the 1300's. So...who's to blame for that?

I cannot give you hard number but yes the Catholic church did kill many through the crusades. Whether that number approaches what you say I don't know but I doubt it. Either way it was still wrong. You cannot blame all Christians, Catholic or otherwise, for something that was done hundreds of years ago. I think you should spend more time worrying about the religion that is sponsoring murder and suicide bombers today.

Yes, many people have been killed by the Christians. But, many people have been killed by the Muslims, also. The Communists kill people for their religion. The problem is not Christianity, but religion. Or, more specifically, differences of religion. Jeffrey Dahmer and Charles Manson killed a few people, but to have a real large scale atrocity, like the Holocaust, you need religion. As a non-believer, I see religion as the greatest evil on Earth.

It is true that far too many have been killed IN THE NAME of Christ but that does not mean they were killed by Christians. These kinds of actions are very clearly condemned in the Bible. Likewise, many are killed everyday in the names of many other gods. This does not mean that these killings have anything whatsoever to do with said religions.
