I always do the plain side, just because I'd think the salted side would be the "presentation" side. say you were making a sandiwch, and you had to top it with another cracker. I would think salted side would go up. would look better.

most toppings that you may be thinking of are probably slippery like dry cheese slices, hams, or thick jellies. as you can see, these topping holds better on the upper side of the crackers since that place has the best amount of, traction, if you will. but the upper side also contains more salt so you may avoid this recommendation on flavors that don.t agree with the taste like sweet.

peanut butter and veggie spreads go on the salted side, where as meats and chesses are placed on the unsalted side, so it is dependant on what is used

On Ritz I put it on the side that is raised... so I guess the salted side. My toppings would fall off if I put them on the bottom! hehe!
