Filipinos are called Asians. They are usually grouped with Southeast Asia, so people from the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, etc. are all considered to be Asians.
Pacific Islanders are considered to be those from Oceana that are not from Australia or New Zealand.
Some Filipinos reject being called Asians, but they are currently still considered to be Asians.
(and it definitely is about location... there are some very dark Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. and they don't even live on an island, so they can't be Pacific Islanders!)

Philippines is an Asian (SouthEast Asian) country which is in the pacific region though not in the middle of it. Philippines is an archipelago, or a group of many islands, bounded on the right or east by the Pacific Ocean.

Officially, of course, Filipinos are categorized as Asians and the Philippines as part of South-east Asia. But describing Filipinos as Pacific Islanders isn't necessarily wrong either. In fact, for a long time, Filipinos were known as Pacific Islanders. I just say I am asian. other's classify them selves as "Asian Pacific Islanders."

Technically Philippines is located in the Asian continent. However, it is a group of islands near the Pacific. A lot of people are debating about that actually.

the archipelago of the philippines is located southeast of mainland asia and submarine land bridges would show that it is part of that mainland. as such it would be easier to consider the philippines to be asiatic. pacific is so vast and it would be more difficult and confusing even so to include the philippines there where there are different island groups like aleutians, hawaii, fiji, samoa, polynesia, vanuatu, the solomons, micronesia, palau, the marshalls, etc. this would be very apparent if you check a map that inludes the oceans or a good sized globe and you will see that the philippines is both asian and pacific but really and easily more identifiable with the southeast asian region

I d say Asians, but really prepare Pacific Islander. Notice how Filipinos are more look like Indonesians,Malaysians,Thailanders,Burmese. Like it or not, Filipino brown skin, heights and strait black hair are very similar to them than the people of Samoa,Figi,Tonga and other Pacific Islanders.
