I personally like to watch MMA. I think it is extremely entertaining, thrilling, and exciting! It may even replace boxing as the top mano-a mano sport in the world someday.

I think it deserves good press because of its record for fighter safety.

Honestly what I see on UFC is basically ground fighting. I might even pessimistically say it could be called Ultimate Grappler. It isnt the most interesting thing to see when two big men grab each other and wrestle each other on the floor whilst scoring a few hits. But I must say it is an effective way to fight if you think about it.

But whether MMA - particularly UFC fighters can be compared with the other greats of our time? its basically a Bruce Lee vs Muhamad Ali type of question. What I am trying to say is: at the end of the day when you fight somebody it doesnt matter what belt you are or what things you have learnt in your MMA class. It is whether or not you can use it effectively and most importantly score the hits.

You can be from TKD (I think TKD is a great martial art, dont get me wrong) white belt and still beat a guy doing MMA for 10 years. At the end of the day it is about your application and strategy - not exposing an opening while exploiting situations to your advantage.

Just because MMA encompasses many martial arts all mixed together does not mean it is the answer. There is still a place for traditional arts such as TKD and karate. So good or bad press? I think the press it is getting at the moment is fair press. By the way, MMA did propel brazilian ju jitsu to the world.

I think it's a fad. I don't think it will last the test of time. I personally think it deserves a bit of press, but good or bad? Depends I guess. I'm sick of all the "hype" in regards to it. I wish it was approached for what it is.. a sport contest. It's actually not much different than any other sport contest. The "ultimate fighting" should be dropped. There's nothing "ultimate" about it any longer. I know the arguments about MMA and I'm not disputing the effectiveness of knowing a system of fighting that is complete. However, I find it humorous that people have been fighting for THOUSANDS of years now.. and somehow we have the arrogance to believe we are the first ones to discover and develop this MMA. I'd like to point out that almost ALL martial arts systems incorporate a multitude of techniques. Which include locks, throws, submissions, etc, etc, as well as punches, kicks, etc, etc. While some schools don't teach this way (because there are many schools that should not be open they are money machines and nothing more) any traditional stylist knows their complete system. So while MMA is effective.. it's nothing new. It's simply just martial arts. Although, they've taken a lot of this and that and mostly use the techniques that a school kid could learn in a day. The announcers are humorous though. Where do they find these people. If so and so is their best ground fighter and is so accomplished and well versed.. then they should get out more. In the MMA fights I've watched, I've rarely seen any good fighters, but I have seen a lot of stubborn ones.

So I guess it does deserve some press. Although good or bad?? Don't know... The reality is that MMA tournaments are just two grown men who are in great shape but have limited skill banging on each other.

Mixed Martial Arts is the future. Its safer and more exciting than boxing. You get to see a well rounded fighter instead of just a boxer ( in most cases). I also believe that it will be in the Olympics someday. Its already a very popular international sport. They don't get any press time because US fighters aren't the dominant ones anymore. Sorry but Pride FC fighters would WHOOP UFC fighers anyday.

the UFC is good. why? cos it is real life. it is the closest you can get to real life combat on the street without actually going to the street. it has rules but only minor ones. the reason why people dont want it on tv is cos they are scared of the truth and that this stuff actually happens. any martial art-ist should agree with this cos the bottom line to martial arts is self defence in a confrontational situation, IE on the street.
disagree or agree

it is common. Self risk-free practices is the potential to maintain existence and freedom in detrimental and/or risky circumstances. interest is interest, one participant attempting to superb the qualifications of yet another for some worth(?) prize. there is an overlap. As mentioned working can at situations, be a existence-saving potential, and any actual interest complements well being, increasing the flair for risk-free practices. That mentioned, the concentration, or reason in case you will is lots different between activities (of any variety), and martial artwork. the concentration of TMA isn't on interest, or on triumphing something. it fairly is reason is to do even though is mandatory to stay during the day, and your "prize" is existence itself. the version between a interest performed for excitement and/or earnings, and martial artwork is so obvious as to be a no-brainer to those which will take yet a minute to think of roughly that. some activities (muay thai, kickboxing, boxing, MMA, etc) are extra proper to assisting with risk-free practices than others, so the "overlap" is greater, yet nevertheless they are activities, and don't coach the understanding, avoidance, evasion areas that make defence unique. in addition they don't learn how to end it in interest the way we ate taught in TMA. yet. McDojo not coated, TMA preparation os too troublesome for many, so that they seek for the easy-restoration. Get a black belt and be invincible! no rely in case you practice a TMA for 10 years and earn it, or in basic terms pay and bypass to instructions for a pair of years you nevertheless get that BB that makes you invincible. in spite of everything, interest is one component, and martial artwork, being something yet carrying, is something else fullyyt.

Personally I enjoy it, it is very entertaining.
As far as press I commonly hear that it is violent and teaches violent tendencies to people.
But I believe the same can be said of many other sports and shows on TV.

Good press, with the exception of one guy in an unsactioned event, no fighter has ever died in a sanctioned event or has been seriously injured to where they would have to call it quits for their fighting career.

It should be covered in every national or local TV sports programs and newspapers just like every other sport. Why do I have to watch a highlight of women trying to play basketball and not get to watch a highlight of someone's head getting smashed in?does'nt make sense to me.
