The second answer is very wrong. That is a myth about getting anything upgraded after any period of time. What they discharge you as, is what you get.

The answer is that it may not be as bad as a discharge for drugs, but it still isn't the greatest thing ever. You will be coded an RE-3 or RE-4 depending on your situation. It is still and honorable discharge it just means you are not allowed to ever reenter the military. They tell you that you can if you can prove the problem that caused you to get out is fixed, but it is an uphill climb and not a successful one. Employers may look at the time you served and wonder why it's not a full 4 year time period. They will be suspicious of the conditions surrounding the discharge, but you may just say you had a medical condition that kept you from passing the PRT. By law though, they are not allowed to ask you why you got discharged and you are not allowed to tell them if you are looking into another government job like the post office or something. It's a 50/50 thing and it all depends on where you want to work.

You can not pass the Air Force fitness test? You are kidding right?

The Air Force fitness test is a joke. When they had too many people who never exercised drop over dead during their yearly THREE MILE WALK, they went with a stationary bicycle and measured the heart rate. When that turned out to be absolutely stupid, they went a new fitness assessment which consists of four areas: body composition, aerobic fitness (running), push-ups, and crunches (sit-ups). Compared to the fitness test of any other branch of the service, the Air Force test is a joke, good for laughs at any Army, Marine, Navy or Coast Guard base.

If you cannot pass the "Air Force's" PT test, you should really need to work on your physical fitness. It is the least difficult of all military branches and there should be no excuse for you to not get anything except an honorable discharge. good luck.

It's really not that bad. You can upgrade the discharge to an honorable after 12 months.
