Alright, if you are educated or have beliefs about mission trips and helping people within charities this question is for you.
What part of donation do you think actually helps people versus going to a business and direct to the owners of these charities.

I think going into the actual missions field helps more than directing these chariities. One, it makes those we are helping very happy to see that there are people willing to help them rebuild their homes and also give them the gospel of Christ.

There are several websites that rate charities according to the net amount of your donation that actually reaches those for whom it is intended. One that I know of is www.give.org sponsored by the Better Business Bureau, but do a search yourself (charity ratings or charity watch). Some of them have neat pie charts, etc. You can actually find out what percent of every dollar goes to do good. They also report the salaries of their top executives and the addresses of each of these charities.

A lot of their cost is spent on soliciting your donation in the first place. I'm always getting free calendars, address labels, stuffed animals, etc. from some of them. It's a shame that people are so stingy sometimes that they have to bribe you or guilt you into giving.

I think it's great that you want to help. The list of charities is endless. You'll find one that you most want to help.

If you want to make a monetary donation instead of going yourself I would talk to the pastor at your church. My brother-in-law has gone on several missions and he is almost 100% responsible for getting the money to go on his own. If you speak to your pastor, they can tell you who is planning to go and needs donations.
