I'd just change the subject since the person asked me to and was polite about it.

I would change the subject, because I would not want the person to feel uncomfortable.

change the subject because that person is obviously not comfortable talking to you about that subject

I think it would be almost like a reflex to ask something along the lines of "Did you have a bad experience with that?" but personally, I would try not to mention it again, at least in that conversation.

Maybe bring it up another time, much later down the road with much sincerity...

Generally yes, but I'm also curious, so it's quite possible a "why?" would pop out before I could stop myself.... No I wouldn't keep pushing, that'd be really rude, but I might just try to ask once... especially if I were really caught off-guard, if it were a known sensitive topic I wouldn't, then it would be expected.

i friggin hate people who pry.they say its cuz they're "concerned" or some crap,but no,they're just prying to be nosy.actually,i remember standing around with some buddies not too long ago and one of them was prying.he asked me somethin and i said "dont worry about it" and he kept at me like "whats that sposed to mean?dont worry bout it?" and i said its a polite way of saying mind your own fawkn business.he just blinked at me and then shut up.
