It's possible, but it will take some money, time and effort, and will involve formatting your disc and losing all of your data and applications. Also, since this is a new computer you may have problems with the hardware not being supported by XP. This is why I ended up upgrading - I didn't have a choice.

While switching to Vista is frustrating, it's also to be expected. It's new and different and it will take time to adjust. I remember my dad absolutely hated moving from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 because of the interface changes. Switching has driven me nuts but I'm finally starting to get used to it and like some of the new features. Vista does have its good points. One thing is that it's designed with security in mind, which makes it less likely you'll get a virus or other nasty that will steal your data or infect your computer. It has a number of nice features not found in XP, but it will just take some time to learn your way around.

It also sounds like some of your problems, like the AOL window, are because of third party software installed by HP, and not Vista's fault. You might try calling HP's tech support and asking them how to fix this, since they're the ones who installed the AOL software. Whenever I get a new computer I spend days uninstalling half the crap that's pre-loaded.

I'd suggest spending some time getting to know your way around Vista. You may actually like it once you've adjusted to it. Try getting some books to help you out. Believe it or not, I always recoommed the Dummies series of books because they do a good job of introducing the basics. I'd recommend something like Windows Vista for Dummies. My father likes the Visual series, like Learn Microsoft Vista Visually. ( looked up a bunch of books and entered links, but when I tried to submit this Yahoo asked for my password and ate the previous posting and I didn't bookmark the books. Sorry. But do an Amazon search and you'll find them easily).

In addition to books, there are some online resources that may help you to learn how to get around in Vista. Try some of these and see if they help:

Give it some time and you may like it. Also, rolling back to XP is just putting off the switch. You'll have to upgrade eventually as fewer software vendors will support XP and there will be fewer patches. You might as well take the plunge now and get it over with. Good luck.

there is not any such component as place of work Vista. the main cutting-edge version of place of work is place of work 2007 and it will run on XP, Vista, or abode windows 7. Microsoft won't in basic terms pull the plug on Vista. Even XP is going to be supported until 2014.

I was told the bios on the motherboard of a Vista machine is different and it causes problems to install XP. Possibly a computer tech could do it, or maybe flash the bios so you can use XP.

I'd say dump your PC and go buy a Mac.

Retirement is to enjoy all the good you have worked so hard for and the Macs are made for you.

I bought my 77 Y.O. Mom a iMac and lessons at the local Apple Store and in two months having never used a computer, she can e-mail, print her extensive photo collection, burn music CD's.

I'm not being a wise ***, just saying that you give thought to moving to an easy and reliable platform.

I would suggest reformatting / reinstalling. That way, you don't have conflicts with what XP and Vista use. You can do this from the XP installation disc, just tell it to reformat. Don't forget to backup your data first
