Parents, if you got to "request" your child's teacher who would it be: an easy teacher because you want your kid to have a good grade or a hard teacher who preapares them for SATs?

Have you ever complained to your child's teacher for a lower grade than other teachers because they are a hard teacher and you don't like your kids grade because of the teacher.

I would actually want my child to have a teacher who didn't think grades were important, because they only reflect what a child knows at one moment in time. A person who crams for a test and gets an A might know less about the subject a week after the test than someone who got a C on the same test.

I would want a teacher who respected my child's individual interests and learning style. I would want a teacher who believed my child would thrive and learn best guiding his own course of study.

That's why we homeschool.

I would "request" my child got a teacher who was hard. Not just for SAT scores but for the challenge. A good grade in HS doesn't mean anything when you're in college being expected to excel.

Nope, I never have or ever will complain to a teacher over a low grade. Kids need to learn to work harder NOT just come to mom and dad over every little problem they have. If there was a paper that I felt was good yet my child got a poor grade I would ASK the teacher to explain but I'd never question his/her authority.

I am a recently retired elem teacher. It would help to know how old the child you are talking about is ? If elem, it is great to sit in on a teacher's classroom the year before , so you can see what you are choosing. Gossip and hear say mean NOTHING> You do want a teacher who expects accountable behavior, but not above what your child is capable of. If you get a teacher with a personality that is compatible with your child and a good teacher, then you have a great combo.

you actually can request in a lower grade and you have the right to look at their cerdintals and lesson plans. my mom is a teacher and she hand picked our elemetry teachers. I guess she picked the hard/ teachers that taught well. The one where her kids did well on the test etc so that we would learn. You can't pick after that but we had a good foundation and both graduated with honors in high school

my son is only 4 but i would prefer a fairly hard teacher that can actually get through to him about doing his work and doing it well but at the same time help him if he needs it
i had easy teachers when i was at school their attitude was either do your work and hand it in or if your not going to do it put your head on your desk or stare out the window without disturbing anyone else trying to do their work and therefor i took the easy option because i was given that choice (not to mention the fact that looking back on it now it was stupid) but most kids will take that option if given the choice and more than likely fail at school....... ALSO on the other hand if they have a hard teacher they may be more likely to skip school because they dont like the teacher or are scared of failure even if they try their hardest so they dont try at all

I would want a teacher who can engage my child in the class and help him enjoy learning, no matter what age my child is. Grades are not an indication of intelligence; I'd rather have my child consistently enjoy learning at his own pace than force him into a class that makes him unhappy for the sake of a 'grade'.
