It can happen, just like with any other animal. Sometimes the kitten is born unhealthy and the mother will ignore it, knowing it's the weak one, and the owners not knowing might not see the death coming until its too late. There is a higher risk if the cat is giving birth to more than 3 (which is like us giving birth to more than one). More kittens, more risk that some won't survive, but I wouldn't say it's a given- I've seen over a lot of litters being born and some don't lose any.
I hope I've read your question correctly and answered it well.

Hello Kitten. That can happen but often doesn't. If it does it generally means that mom cat or kitten was not healthy. Sometimes one klitten just doesn't develop the way it needed to to make it. Sometimes it means there were just more kittens than mom cat could take care of inside her or after they were born. It is not necessarily or likely because you handled it. Our cat Purrcilla would come and find my husband when it was time for her kittens and as soon as she had the first kitten she would pick it up in her mouth and put it in his hand for him to take care of while she had the next one(s). None of the kittens died because she did that. A cat that is not socialized to people for example a stray that has kittens outside somewhere or a pet cat that does not get get along well with or relate to humans may reject a kitten with people smell on it but of the mom cat is used to you and hangs out with you she will not reject a kitten because you touched it. However she does generally want to be left in peace with her babies. She wants you to tell her in soothing pleased tones how wonderful she is and they are bit to basicly let the rest snuggled by her untill she decides it is time to move them....Be suere to have a place or 2 or 3 available for her to choose from to have the babies and then some other places available when she decides it's time to move them which is generally at 1-3 weeks old. Take note of where she is going snooping around when the kittens are that age and iof she is checkoing out a place you think is not safe or suitable shut doors or whatever so she can't get in there just be sure that she has not already moved one of the kittens there befiore you do that.

This depends on lots of things. Normally all of the kittens will live unless there is some sort of problem. Could be the mother was too young to bare kittens, the mother is sick, the kittens are born too early, the kittens are sickly or deformed or even the mother has problems during the birth. All of these or any other reasons give a chance for stillborn or death shortly after birth.

You can save the kitten in the fridge and take it to the vets. They will autopsy if you think there is a problem with the mother. Sometimes we cannot stop the fate of death. I am sorry for your loss of this kitten.

:)

Sometimes, but more than likely, no.

It isn't a law of nature that one will die out of a litter. Any time a litter of anything is born, sometimes one will not make it. Just a fact of life. Pops

not always, but often when many are born of any animal, one dies.
I used to have Rabbits and most of the time if they would have more than five or six at least one would die.
But sometimes they would all survive.
