This is why everyone needs a contract. This question would have never been ask if you had one. If the stud owner got pick of the littler then yes the puppy goes to him..If you paid for stud service then the puppy stays with you. Maybe you will get a sound contract before you do this again that way there will never be any question and the end.

The one time I bred without having a both parents (I had the girl) our agreement was that she would get a female puppy unless my girl only had one puppy, then I would pay her a stud fee. In the end even the stud fee was "forgiven" because although she did have 2, the female puppy died at birth as did the mother. I ended up keeping the boy offspring I raised (yes he did survive).

With a breed like ours that is likely to only have one puppy, this kind of contigency plan has to be in effect for breeding. Talk to the sud owner about paying a stud fee rather than give up your only puppy (I assume you bred her to get a pup for you and a pup for them).

A former boyfriend used to raise and sell champion German Shepherds, so I believe most breeding contracts allows the sire's (male) owners to have their "pick of the litter" UNLESS only one puppy is born. Then, I think the female's owners get to decide whether or not they want to give the one and only puppy away ~ or pay the agreed upon stud fee.

We have a little 5 lb. chihuahua and adore her!

If your dog gave birth to the puppy, it belongs to you unless you had some sort of agreement with the owners of the stud in exchange for stud services.

lol...thats difficult. I would say it should belong to you all because she only had one. If it bothers the owners, you could pay them for half of what you would sell the puppy for, and then you collect the other half. Sounds as fair as it could get.

The puppy is yours because yuo are the ones who hads to take care her while she was pregnant and had to handle the birth. Unless you two had some sort of agreement the pup is yours.

If the male dog owner has first pick of the litter then they get the pup if they want it.
