Throwing Moves (Judo) or Striking Moves (Karate)?

That's like asking which is a more effective instrument, guitar or drums. There is no answer for that question. If you read previous questions you'll see that people agree it all comes down to the skill of the martial artist. I've seen grapplers throw strikers across a ring and I've seen strikers pummel grapplers into submission. It just depends on the situation and skill of the artist.

to expand on the previous answers - it also depends what you want to do to them. I don't like striking because i don't want to hurt people, and what's the point striking if you don't do it hard?

depends how the enemy attacks you. the most effective thing is the brain, and its ability to adapt. if it only chooses one way to fight, it wont last. we must attack/defend based on the situation, not by the style.
