My cat Archie,... is at times really stupid, like he thinks its funny to get under foot as if getting stepped on was funny. When he does get stepped on he complains, bitches and wails.
Other times he's quite clever, he watches as do all cats are very good at observation. He knows how to turn off all my alarm clocks (I'm a very deep sleeper), I am constantly relocating all my alarm clocks, because he will knock them over just to turn of the alarm switches.
among other things, he knows how to turn on and turn off my stereo, the TV, the microwave, and also call wrong numbers on the telephone.

I love him -but I wish he could figure out that its naughty to do some of the stupid things he does,... its almost like having a half witted boyfriend. Though guys are a lot like that too, thats some thing for a different question, hey?

Well my cats havent learned how to run the DVD player or TV (yet anyway..lol).. theyre a little over a year old and have figured out how to open doors..the lever-type door knobs, he will open the bathroom door just because.. usually when im in there going to the restroom!!.. he cant open regular door knobs (thank goodness) but gives me a jump at night when im sleeping he will rattle the knob and it sounds like someone trying to get in. stupid intelligent cat.

I prefer them stupid actually! I find that the smarter they are, the more of a pain in the butt they are. I am not talking about this fun sillyness but the constant boundary pushing and defiance even with punishment. Last cat my bf and I had that was smart got booted by me. She got lucky that his grandfather's cat had dropped dead (literally) 2 weeks before or she was going to be put down. She hated women and had to show me constantly. We tried everything under the sun to break her but it did not work. I put up with it for 3 years. She was 10 when we got rid of her and all those habits left instantly.

The 3 we have now are stupid in different ways.

Stinky is just dumb as can be! He sees a button and has to push it. If something happens like a CD tray comes out then he MUST sit on it. He enjoys the vet. He is afraid of heights. He thinks running into the kitchen and pouncing on the little rug so he slides across the floor into the wall is the greatest. He thinks if he is in a bag then no one can see him yet he can see out. He is afraid of heights. And at over 12lbs, he gets his butt kicked by a 6.5lb girl!

Cheese is all cat. She was a feral stray when we got her. If it comes to being an independent cat and doing those activities she is awesome. She is so smart. She is unbelievably agile and can plan her moves ahead so quickly. She also hunts mice (and no she does not torture them; she knows what they are and what to do that is why we don't find them the next day). However, DUMB! How dumb is she? We have had her almost 4 years and she came to us at 6-7 mths old. She still has no idea what her name is or the word No for that matter. Our pet rabbit is smarter than her in that respect.

Jax... his response time is a little slow. His nickname is "Little Ike," (after Ike Turner) because he is black (all black) and doesn't bite when playing. He likes to sit above his playmate and just punch them.

Stupid is a relative term lol! But I bet my BF would rather be woken up by Archie than Jax or Cheese! Cheese licks his face and neck to wake him and Jax will either lay across his neck and choke him with his weight or will head-butt him in the jaw which is like getting punched in the face when you are sleeping lol!

Animals are strange but a true blessing from God. Sounds like you have your hands full with your blessing. My cats are smart but do not work the computer, television, microwave or telephone. You may have to hide the remotes when you are not in the room. Keep your phone in a drawer and keep something in front of the microwave when you are not home. That one could be dangerous.

When my cats are especially naughty I will use a spray bottle with a good sprayer. I like to find ones that will shoot across the room as the cat is faster than my movement. Spraying them with water is harmless but helps to get the point across. And like a child in the learning curb you will need to be patient and constant. You will have to use the "No" word and maybe replace their cleverness with toys.

Archie could be a smart cat that is just bored. Yes, even animals get bored. They, like humans, will try to get your attention in any way possible even being naughty. I just bought some Hartz 5 pack mini mice from Walley World that was about $4 but the cats love them. They are made from rabbit fur and act better than catnip. I give them to my cats at bedtime as they love to act up when I go to bed.

Good Luck! :)

Cat's are very intelligent, which you have just found out recently. Treat them like a child. I remember when I was a child, I had 2 cats that I taught how to get onto my top bunk. I would suggest discipline, or even hissing at them. I currently have 2 cats, and when I go out for a cig, they used to wait by the door, and try and run out, but I started giving them little nudges after coming in, and they do not do it now. Cat's are very trainable, just like most mammals. If the problem persists, I would consider a pet trainer. They are more affordable than you might think, and are really good with teaching animals.

My cat Chester he pulls the plugs out from the sink, plays with my touch lamp and loves to type on the computer but most of all he loves a good splash about in the pond, I think that he likes to do these things because not only are they fun for him but it gets him lots of attention.

My cat's name is Rusty.
He loves to sneak into the garage
and nap on top of the lawn mover.
And, if he doesn't hear the door latch
click, he knows he can push the
door open and get into the garage.
Smart ?
Well, I guess it's all in the eye of
the beholder.

could just be bored. Ours opens donut boxes, the occasional door, but mostly amuses herself by abusing the dog or the local wildlife. catnip is another option

Cats are very intelligent creatures. Their brainpower is comparable to ours on many levels even.

When my cat was a kitten she used to paw down all the books out of my bookcase.

She was trying to be more cute than clever.
