This has been a popular philosphic expression for the Constitution......I enjoy learning. Also it is a metaphor. In the english language we use them frequently.

I disagree.Atheists can have just as much purpose as theists.I'm more of an agnostic,but I believe in love...or a force in all of us to strive and live.Meaning or purpose is subjective.It's the existential realization that existence preceeds essence.It's a branch of philosophy for everyone.Whether there is a god or not,existentialism will always be true.The meaning of life is the meaning we create...or if you believe in god,it's the meaning god inspires you to create...or lets you create.
