Yes, brushing your hair in public is generally considered quite rude, though some people are less concerned with it than others. Traditionally, though, it's equated with brushing your teeth -- something that should be done in the bathroom or at home. There are hygienic reasons -- hair might fall onto the floor, onto other people, or into food -- and social reasons. Often, it might seem disrespectful to those around you, displaying a certain lack of concern for their feelings, opinions, etc. Brushing your hair in public is becoming more widely accepted in society, but it's generally better that you don't.

Yes, it's rude. Brushing your hair is a personal grooming thing and most other people don't really want to see it or have hair and/or dander flying all over the place. It's better to find a rest room or place where there aren't other people around.

When you brush your hair, usually some strands will break and fall on the floor. That wouldn't be considered good manners in most indoor places at the very least.

Outside no, in a restuarant yes, as the stray hair could fly into the food.

hi,
it isn't considered rude as much as being unsanitary, it's like brushing your teeth in public.

YES!
Omg, it drives me so nuts I usually leave the room. If I can't leave I tell them to stop. If the girl is a real b**** and continues, I take her brush. Don't care who it is. Have some manners.

I have never heard that it is "rude", but when you think about it, it does seem kindof out of place. But it is never ok around food or in a restaurant unless you are in the restroom.

It is because hair and hair particles (like lint or dandruff) fly through the air and people just don't want that stuff landing in their coffee or in their faces.
