I think, according to the bible, it was just a snake. Satan/the devil was originally an angel who turned against God and tried to take over Heaven, so God threw him out.

Every time I've heard people talking about the serpent that tricked Eve, they talk about the nature of it, whether it was Satan, a snake, how it was punished. But nobody ever asks, "How can a snake talk"? Did the other animals talk? Was that one the only one that ever talked, or did they all talk? God punished it to crawl on it's belly, but it never says that He took away it's power to talk, so where are the talking snakes? Adam and Eve never talked to any other animal. Why not? This is the most disturbing part of the whole story, and nobody even addresses it.

i do no longer truly imagine of the particular shown truth that they were tempted as being a sin. Had they left out the temptation, maximum would agree that they'd stay sin loose, proper? As for the ingesting of the forbidden fruit being a sin, i imagine of it extra as a "transgression" of the regulation, as there is not any longer some thing inheritently evil about ingesting a fruit. type of like doing 57 in a 55 zone. this isn't evil, notwithstanding it ought to reason you hassle because it really is a transgression of the regulation. Lucifer/devil existed earlier the Earth became created. He idea he became thwarting God's plan at the same time as he tempted Eve, yet in truth he became assisting to convey it about. The atonement of Christ, which became continually designed to be an element of the plan, would not be mandatory if mankind not at all exercised their employer. God granted unto adult men their employer, and the plan of salvation certainly assumed that adult men would use it for both reliable and evil.

Satan does not have a body. He needs a body to get evil into this world. At the time of Adam and Eve's creation their bodies were not like ours. Their bodies could not die and were to be forever young. Satan could not get evil through by using one of them so he inhabited a serpent. God cursed the serpent because at the time all the animals were under God's command so much so that lions didn't eat meat, they ate grass and were very friendly to Adam and Eve. But that particular serpent must have allowed Satan within itself which means it countered God's command. That is why the serpent is cursed.

It was Adam's first wife, Lilith--the word serpent is ancient hebrew slang for vagina and one of her many names--I'd list the whole explanation, but nobody reads it
