The base of the lamp is the ground lead, and needs to be bolted to a metal part of the car body. The black lead should ultimately go to the positive lead of the car battery, hopefully through some sort of switch so that you can turn them off. If you want them to work with your headlights, you can patch them into the low beam connector of these lights.

to the power wire grounds through your machine i hope your talking about 9-12 volt lights didnt say what kind of mach.
