Briefly describe what you know about Islam. This is a religious/historical observation on what people know of Islam. So if you make a statement, you better have something to back up your statements. I want concrete historical evidence, not stereotypes or assumptions.

The first thing that one should know and clearly understand about Islam is what the word "Islam" itself means. The religion of Islam is not named after a person as in the case of Christianity which was named after Jesus Christ, Buddhism after Gotama Buddha, Confucianism after Confucius, and Marxism after Karl Marx. Nor was it named after a tribe like Judaism after the tribe of Judah and Hinduism after the Hindus. Islam is the true religion of "Allah" and as such, its name represents the central principle of Allah's "God's" religion; the total submission to the will of Allah "God". The Arabic word "Islam" means the submission or surrender of one's will to the only true god worthy of worship "Allah" and anyone who does so is termed a "Muslim", The word also implies "peace" which is the natural consequence of total submission to the will of Allah. Hence, it was not a new religion brought by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) I in Arabia in the seventh century, but only the true religion of Allah re-expressed in its final form.

Islam is the religion which was given to Adam, the first man and the first prophet of Allah, and it was the religion of all the prophets sent by Allah to mankind. The name of God's religion lslam was not decided upon by later generations of man. It was chosen by Allah Himself and clearly mentioned in His final revelation to man.

The concrete evidence is AL- Quran

TS... has a very good introduction. Anyways:

Well, thanks for the consideration and asking specifically for no stereotypes or assumptions. OK, any Muslim can write a book on Islam, there is just to much to explain we don't know where to start. So you will probably be better off doing some research (not trying to be mean or sarcastic). But anyhow, I strongly suggest you watch this video on youtube that busts many of the stereotypes of Islam in the world today, such as it being a religion of violence, terrorism, war, etc. It also provides the truth about the religion, so you will find much information on Islam as well, while at the same time learning the truth. Please watch it.

Well, it came from things a man named Muhammad said were given to him in sessions with the angel Gabriel. His friends wrote his words down but lost them. Later, after his death, those who knew him wrote the things he said down. He married multiple women including a 6 year old girl, who said all this was true in the Islamic book of either the Sura or the Hadieth, she also praised Muhammad and indicated he mated with her at the age of 9. If that is incorrect, then possible her praise of Muhamadd is also incorrect. Her word is her word or ISN'T. She eithers LIES or DOESN'T.

You can't pick and choose.

Muhammad was sent from Mecca by the indiginous Jews and some Arabs. He came back which forces and took the city.

After his death Islam faced a separation into those who followed two different leaders (caliphs) and Islam started spreading through the immediate vicinity by those converts.

Islam, through it's "good book" known as the Qur'an calls the Christian faith directly blaphemers for say Jesus is the Son of God and was Crucified on the Cross.

Islam, through the Qur'an, says harsh things about the Jews and Jewish faith.

The rest is common history.

I know that on observation I recollect something about a caricature of a Muslim, as the artist assumed they were like everyone else, but all hell broke loose. I remember frenzied marches, a nurse doing the Lord's work getting ruthlessly shot and The Pope the main target of this pent up frustration. ON THE OTHER HAND, it almost seems they can boast of their 'Jihad'--the world turned Islam with a leader 'Allah' who is for young girls with big lustrous eyes and lots of chaos to coax the 'Mahdi' out of the bottom of that well he's been in for 1 thou? yrs. WOW!

BTW Hardly anybody even knows the Jihad is underway here in the US,now. I bumped into it on the Internet under 'The Muslim Brotherhood, THE PROJECT'.

I have studied the Quran in a 400 level college class before along with research ever since. I found Islam to be a very dogmatic, ungodly, oppressive, violent, chauvinistic, arab, dishonest, anti-Christ, anti-social, facist, rigid, unhealthy, unbeneficial religion.

Quran Surah IX:29 Fight against such of those who have been given the scripture (Christians and Jews) as believe not in Allah nor the last day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by his messenger, and follow not the religion of truth until they pay the tribute readily being brought low.

In the Qur'an 47:4, it says, "When you encounter the infidels, strike off their heads till you've made a great smote among them." And again,

2:193, "Fight therefore against them until the only worship be that of Allah."

That is really the defining characteristic of the Quran and Muhammads life itself; IT INCITES VIOLENCE and oppression. It teaches that violence and oppression against people that dont believe as you is a good and holy thing. That is why, sad to say, that most Muslims turn a blind eye to violence or secretly root for people like Osama Bin Ladin because they are committing the acts of violence their religion calls for but they themselves are not willing to do, especially after tasting of the prosperity of western civilization.

Every statement I make is backed up by the koran.
Islam is spread by the sword.
Mohammad said "make no friends of the Christian or the Jew"
He also said "beleaguer them; lie in wait for them; harass them in every stratagem of war."
One of mohammed's wives was a pre-pubescent child.
Muhammad constantly mis-quotes Scripture.
He instructed muslims to treat non-muslims as second-class citizens.
The only stereotype or assumption is that islam is a religion of "peace".

I would recommend you look at Jihad Watch it is a blog and it describes current activities of Islamic aggression. Islam fights using a genocidal format, as the persecution of Christians in Iraq is showing also the atrocities in Lebanon and Darfur indicate they kill men, women, children all in the name of Allah the merciful. It will come to a time when every person will have to be able to kill and defend their families and themselves. Armenia was the world's first Christian nation but the Turks/ Muslims killed all the Christians and Hitler referred to it as OK to kill Jews because no one complained about Armenia. Muslims consider non-Muslims as fair game to kill rape rob or enslave.
