O now that depends on the specific kind of serial killer. There are many different kinds, and each one has different strengths and weaknesses.
First of, if you are in the basement, it means that he did not want to kill you right of the bat. Find out what purpose he has with you, then exploit it.
For instance, if he kept you alive to clean his basement, then you should clean it, but leave it dirty enough that he has to keep you around.
Next, look for means of escape. Killing the killer would be my way... but you might be able to just run away or something. Like I said, each killer is different.

Desperate times call for desperate measures....so I guess I would start looking around for the basements weakest spot or the form of least resistance. if there was none I would search for a weapon to kill him with.

I guess I'd ask them to rent SAW for me, and pop me some popcorn. Then I'd do whatever worked in that for the person who escaped. Never seen it. Sounds too gory, but this sounds like that premise.

I would try to find something to hit him with, hide behind the door, and knock him out when he comes in - you didn't say I was tied up or anything.

1) use his favorite ax to hack my way out
2) mix up c-4 and blow a hole in something to get out.
3) call a cop on my cellphone and say I was a donut in distress!!!
