I want to record a CD of my music to sell online. But I have no idea how recording studios work. If I rent a studio I will have no idea how to work it, and i also don't know how you can do good home recordings. can anyone fill me in a little on this?

Hire somebody to record you is the best option in my opinion.

All professional computer programs work pretty much the same way. The main difference is how they interface with hardware.

Audacity is a free program you can use to make recordings at home.

Upgrading your computer's sound card will improve your recordings.

This is the high end of recording on your home computer.

"Upfront it carries a heafty price tag, but if you want to achieve the highest home recording quality this is the way to go. I highly recommmend watching the instructional dvd before you get started recording. And before diving in and purchasing the unit make sure you're computer can handle the digidesign 002 and ProTools software pack by visiting digidesign's website."

Check around your local music scene and in the phone book for studios in your area. Call and ask for rates, websites and recordings that they have done. There are a lot of smaller studios that will have reasonable rates. Remember that you will most likely be charged by the hour. Go in prepared with all of your parts written and ready to record. Writing in the studio can get very expensive, very quickly! If you inclined to learn the above mentioned computer programs can get some great results or even some stand alone machines may more intuitive for you. Check with your musician friends. Chances are somebody you know already has the gear to do some home recording.
