First off, in the USA they arent considered Terrorist weapons, thats just ludicris, whomever said that has No Idea about what terrorists use, nor firearms law.

Second, the Much mythological "Ping" cant be heard in the Middle of a firefight unless your within 6 feet or less, and it takes less time to reload a Garand than an Kalashnikov, or Armalite assault rifle.

Third , M1Garands can still be had through a US Government program for as little as $400.00 to qualified individuals. the program is the "Civilian Marksmanship Program", look up odcmp.com for better information on that.

Finally, the M1Garand is a direct link with the history of the Men who liberated many of the Death Camps, Most of the Pacific & Europe(along with many Allies), and kept South Korea Free

Wanna know a secret about MI Garands?

Buy a shotgun news and look at whrever you see Italian, Spanish and Egyptian rifles for sale.
ou can find excelent quality ones for under 300.
One catch though, they have been converted to take a removable magazine of 15 and some twenty rounders.
You can even find some converted to 8m/m as in Egyptian ones because Egypt recieved a lot of surplus ammo German 8m/m for their old rifles, Hakims, and yes by gosh some converted over to 7.62s' 308.
Sure not quite the same ting but darn closre and then for around another 100 you can convert back.
Watch out though as during the WWII many had their sears filed down to full auto and the Egyptian replacement parts for semi auto have been known to be just a tad bit short. 35 bucks to replace.
Another note of caution, there never was a tanker Garand made. and at gun shows you may see some not quite honest people trying to sell some.Shortened.
Reason they were shortened is that Rust cleaning with very acidic solvents and military steel cleaning rods ruin the barrel ends.
I have fired a few of clip modified ones in 06, fire old timers in meets, not the guys the guns, open sights and the Israeli versions are accurate to 600 meters that way. Beyond that and my trifocals , humph humph are at fault.
Don't give up as it is history of our nation you will be holding in your hands, just watch out for your thumbs.

They are getting rare, but there are two ways to get one. One way is to find the nearest dealer/distributor for a company called Israeli Export Arms or Israeli Arms Exports. They make reproduction M1 garands, carbines, and tommy guns. The other is to belong to a shooting club and purchase a surplus M1 or even 1903 Springfield for about the same price. Again, I'm not familiar with the program, but I believe it is called the Civilian Marksmanship Program, and it is government funded and directed.

They can be found. The inexpensive ones are usually made from different rifles. If you want a good one not made from different rifles, you're going to pay. I have a match grade Garand and it was 900 bucks. Marked down because the person I got it from is a good friend and he has a bunch of them. Very nice rifle! That .30-'06 round with a 168 grain boat tail hollowpoint is a good man stopper! Hits like a run away Mac truck!

They no longer use M1 Garands because they have a clinging noise when the clip runs out. Last used in World War II.

Your best bet is the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) or going to a gun show in your area and finding a dealer that will sell one to you for cheap. There's a gun show near my house twice a year and there's a dealer who sells military weapons, and my buddy bought an M1 Garand from him for $450.

They are becoming more of a collectors gun now and everybody thinks because of that, that they can sell theirs for high buck, even if it is a piece of garbage. I'd say the best place to get one is from the CMP (civilian marksmanship program). They're priced pretty good there.

As others mentioned the CMP is a great way to acquire one, but be aware that you will have to pay for a quality rifle. The cheaper ones may not be safe to fire.

depends on what you consider expensive and where you are. the others are right they are becoming collectables and the cmp they was talking about may be an option. if you have gun shows around you,it is another option. here there are private sellers there that sometimes have good prices.
