If in a chat room, that might be a good idea so the doctor can do follow up questions in regards to your symptoms. But there are limits to even that. For example, he can not correctly diagnosis diabetes without some blood work and as far as treating it, forget it.
The best of both worlds would be to have a private doctor who does Internet consults in the morning, orders lab work and other tests that you can go in and get done and then later in the week, either get the lab results back via Internet or see him in the office in the after noon. It would save a bundle for the patient and the doctor could actually be doing two or more consults at the same time as he would have to wait for your answers anyway.

Yes true, some doctors (GPs) are it seems just as qualified as us who research through the internet. I think it's important that you do both though, I have been in a situation where I made something of nothing based on my research or visa versa.
But certainly be educated when you visit the doctor, it helps you ask the relevant questions and can prevent disaster!

Somewhere along the line folks turned doctors into gods and people actually believe everything their doctor/s tell them, you know years ago it first started with apothecary and working with plants etc., it appears that in todays world most people are after a quick fix to cure their problems, however most doctors don't care who your are, or give a stuff about what you say or want, they just become the biggest legal drug pushers out their, and they are backed by our governments. Yes it is fun, isn't it! gets a lot of **** off my chest!

When your sick, it's not fun and the free information only means the problem was not at all serious.
I'd rather go to the doctor for peace of mind and know exactly what I have and what might help free myself, of this problem.

People online can't run tests on you if you are not seeing them in person. Plus, the people online may have not studied as much as the doctors.
