I just watched a show on History channel where they discussed several different cultures and the prophocies they had that the world would end on December 21, 2012. How likely do you think this is? And what do you think is really going to happen?

MATTHEW 24

3) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4) And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5) For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6) And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8) All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9) Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10) And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11) And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12) And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13) But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

NOONE KNOWS THE EXACT DATE OF WHEN THE END OF THE WORLD WILL BE.

Carrie: As a Christian, I would have to say, that only God, the Father, knows when the end of this age will occur. With 34 years in the Christian faith, I have seen it all. Prophesy is a part of the Christian Gospel [Good News] but - it is NOT the Gospel.
When people set dates (2012) for example, you can bet that this will not be the year. Incidently; the world will never end it will just be the end of the AGE. Make no mistake about it; the times we live in will become progressively, bad to the point of utter anarchy and chaos. As people evolve from a moralistic culture, like our grandparents had ( most believed in a God ), we tended to have an enviorment which was conducive to attitudes which focuses on "doing the right and proper things", more, so, by degree. What the end of this age summarizes is the degree in which society has moved away from the love of God and man [neighbour] . This is the sum of focus on the self (self-centeredness). Since humans cannot live in a vacuum ( they either, live for the "good" or the "bad"), evil transplants good. Our Western nations are on the verge of a down-slide presently.
Economic woes, weather changes, disease pandemics, nuclear build ups by nations like Iran - North Korea and Global warming are a start of our demise. Exactly when these things will "peak" to start the "ball" rolling - is anyone's guess. Anyways; beware of religious cults which prey on people's interest by emphasising THEIR version of "Bible prophecy" - I term it: " Prediction Addiction" - fear religion is not compatible with a relationship with God and His grace.

That's right Robert p nobody can know the day or the hour. But we are to know the "season" . which is from 2013 to 2020 . as i have said before my money is on 2013. Too much is happening and it is happening too fast for it to be 2020. And there is no END of the world . When the bible talks of the END it just means the end of a certain time dispensation. I wish people would quit getting their shorts in a knot over this.

The end of the world will be when the sun burns up all it's full and expands it's size to the orbit of the earth. That happens in about 5 billion years. Humanity probably won't survive the next 100 years but the earth will be here for a little while longer.

There is an endless list of dates provided as the end of the world over the past centuries. Just to name a few
1000,1874, 1878, 1914, 1945, 1975, 2000(2001) and now 2012.
Everytime the date comes and passes, people seek out a new date and begin to justify it with whatever evidence they can find. The bible has stopped providing clues that points to any new dates, so now people are looking to texts of minor or extinct cultures for signs of new dates.

Well, I hope that is right. This place is a mess and is way beyond our ability to fix. I know where I am going and the same with my family members. There's been a lot of people who have made complete fools out of themselves thinking that they know the date but the Bible says we won't know and it will come like a thief in the night. I plan to live my life as though it could be tomorrow but I sure won't be surprised if I'm here on Dec. 22, 2012.

nooffence but this is not something new okay, it's been being said for thousands of years in the past saying that " the end is near". Only difference is that when the end didn't come the people just change the date by adding afew more hundread. So since we got planty of time why don't we burn more fules, destroy earth atmosphere, do more wars, and have more fun watching others suffer. I mean after all it's our human creatures nature.

The end days will be just as the Bible portrays it. Since this date has been set, I would say it will not be the date. Jesus clearly says in the bible that no one knows the day, only the father. While it is true that end days is closing in on us, anyone who sets a date can be pretty positive it is not the date. If you want to learn more go to www.raptureready.com. They have some really good explanations for bible scripture pertaining to this and much more. Easily understood. The site is not only about rapture, but other things as well.

It is not possible for the world to end in 2012. It can change, but not end. Before the world can end we must have the rapture-which will take about-that long. Then we must have the tribulation -that will take 7 years. Then we must have the millennium -that will take 1000 years. Then we must have the judgment-who know how long that will take-then the end comes. so, at best-you have at least 1007 years.
BUT-all that can easily start in 2012. Buckle up!

I saw a show on TV that said the same thing! Something about the Aztec or Mayan calendar or something? They showed toasters and waffle irons attacking humans. Freaking hilarious. I think the same thing will happen that happened Dec. 31, 1999 at 12pm. Nothing out of the ordinary.
