You probably have a necrotic tooth (the tissue –pulp- has died and that is why it doesn’t hurt). This is a consequence of the trauma that your tooth suffered, and that is also why it’s turning dark.
If left untreated, it will abscess because of the bacteria that is formed due to the dead tissue.
Treatment: Root canal or extraction in some cases.

Yes, your tooth is probablly dying. when a tooth dies the blood does not circulate through the tooth, the blood dries and turns the tooth dark. in order to save the tooth it will need a root canal. Let your dentist know soon what has happened because not all general dentists do root canals. It would be too bad if you waited a month to see the dentist only to have him refer you to an endodontist( a dentist that specializes in root canals) It should be ok to wait a little while before having the procedure, but since our bodies don't tollerate dead tissue, the body will wall off the dead area and you will have an abcess. This will hurt. you want to have the tooth treated before this happens. Good luck!!1

I have a tooth that is darker than the rest of my teeth. this occured after an accident. My dentist says I have a dead nerve in the tooth and that I may eventually have to have a root canal. Meanwhile I have just been getting the tooth bleached every 6 months to 1 year. This has gone on for 23 years. I now hope to keep this tooth throughout my life.

It is dying, yes. I don't know if a root canal will save it or not, depends on the damage of the tooth.
You could always have it pulled and get an implant.

yes, by the changing color, it sounds like it could be dying. the best thing you can do if it is dead or abcessed is to get it extracted. you wear a temporary partial for 3 months, then you can get a permanent partial or bridge. do not get a root canal because they all get infected and eat your jawbone away. the dentist can look at the x-ray and see if the tooth is dead or dying.

I wouldn't say dying..more like decaying...its probaly rotten from to much sweets. The doctor will most likely perform a root canal if its the teeth in the back. If its more serious they'll pull it. (It doesnt hurt)...dont worry ; )

Call your dentist tomorrow and ask them OK?
They will be able to tell you if you are able/should wait- or should come in sooner.
