You can do whatever you wish as to the color, just remember that you EAT there, and hopefully relax while doing so. If you go bold with red, purple, etc., you might subconsciously just want to hurry up and get out of there... But if you do something subtle, cream ivory or tan, you may want to linger over dessert... Think too that if you HATE the results, that some colors are very difficult to paint over...

Paint half of the wall,top or bottom, and put a border up to separate the two colors.

rich rich red or med tone tan with white trim. If you have a chair rail paint the bottom a darker tan and the top lighter.
