OK, just to give ya'll some background, my parents divorced when I was 5 years old, and my biological father (I have a tendency to call him a sperm donor at times) skipped town when I was 13. I've seen him one time since then, at a family reunion, and that was about 3 years ago. After he skipped town, there was no phone call, no christmas or birthday cards for either me OR my brother. One day out of the blue he calls, and I give him my email address. He sends the usual...jokes and stuff. He OCCASIONALLY (about once every 3 months) sends an email that we should get together, he wants to be a part of my life blah blah blah.... Well, my birthday was yesterday, and I didn't even get an ECard from him. The only thing I got from him was one of those jokes, and that was sent today. I still consider him just a "sperm donor" and he can't understand why I don't want anything to do with him.

Yes, there was a father figure in my life. I call him my stepdad, but he and mom never married for his medical reasons, and he passed away 5 years ago.

My sperm donor skipped out on me when I was 2. My mom remarried when I was 6 to the most wonderful father in the world. My biological father came around a few times to reconnect with me but when my mom and dad made me go visit him in Texas I got on the phone and the first thing I asked for was my dad.
I have no feeling for my biological father. I think if I was to find out he passed it wouldn't have any affect on me.
My DAD however, raised me for 32 years and is the best part of my life. I'm sorry to hear that your step father passed.
I know that if something was to happen to my DAD I would be crushed. Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a DAD.
Honestly your biological father probably didn't rememeber it was your birthday. His guilt has taken a toll on him so he wants to reconnect. You been without him this long.
I figure how can someone say that they love you (father or not) when they don't even know the first thing about you.
I don't blame you for just considering him the sperm donor, because that's really all he is.

Good luck to you!
