User "enigma21" just asserted this very notion in a recent question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070301182721AA57QiP

SO.... what does everyone think about that? I mean, it seems like he feels very strongly about this. Does anyone agree? Anyone disagree? And if you'd like, tell us why.

Definitely false! People can get AIDS from transfusions too. Maybe catching blood from cuts from an HIV/AIDS victim. Believe me, it can happen to anyone. Best chance is to abstain!

False. Although that *would* cut the progress significantly of the spread of this disease.

There are several other ways of contracting AIDS:
* drug use
* medical accident involving an infected syringe
* probably a few others.

User "enigma21" is assuredly jumping to conclusions, or at least being inaccurate in their remarks, but they are partially right in thinking that the idea of "keeping sex within marriage only" would *dramatically* help the problem: It would eliminate several million opportunities of spreading the disease.

There are no facts to back that up. AIDs can come from transfusions, even in this day and age. Come from accidental blood splatter. Come from shared needles.

People would not get AIDS if they had blood tests and DIDN'T CHEAT. CHEATING or having MULTIPLE PARTNERS is one of the major reason for the rampant spreading of AIDS.

If people were more FAITHFUL and not addicted to heroin or other drugs you inject there would be minimal spreading of AIDS.

STD is an EPIDEMIC because of the Orgy like behavior or mankind.

Clearly, there is a fundamental lack of understanding about the way that HIV and other STDs are transmitted. One can get HIV through blood transfusion (unlikely now, but still possible), through contact with infected bodily fluids (for example, if an infected person were badly cut and you came into contact with the blood), through the sharing of needles, a fetus can contract the virus from an infected mother, etc.

If you both went into marriage clean , you would not get aids
sexually with each other .
If you helped Simone in an accident and you exchanged blood through a cut ,or using a dirty needle , You can get aids .So the answer would be false.

I think it would drastically reduce the amount of any given sexually transmitted desise by atleast 90 percent or more if it is included with both partners abstaining from sex till marriage and fidelity in marriage. I think this is the way God wanted man and women to live their lives. The only occurance of aids or other sexually transmitted disease would only be spread then by passing on your genetics to a newborn baby; this could include a sexually transmitted disease.

Aids has no discriminations ,its from sharing dirty needles ,sometimes saliva but very slim,and having unprotected sex with an infected partner whether they are married or not.Your husband could have aids and you not know it,or your wife ,girlfriend ,boyfriend,make sure you and your partner use protection if you had previous sex partners within the last 5 years that you didnt know were hiv infected or not.Peace and love .Share knowlede ,love not diseases.

I think he's a bit confused, and a lot fanatical. Of course AIDS would exist. It wasn't STARTED due to people having sex outside of marriage. It would have spread through tainted blood from donations. It may not be as WIDEspread...but it would certainly exist.

I hardly think Ryan White had sex and got AIDS.

Hi Big Z,
There have been a few transmissions thru Drug users and thru blood transfusions prior to checking the blood for HIV. When I say a few, I don't mean fifteen but compared to those having sex outside of marriage it is nominal. Have a great evening.

False. People get AIDS also through intravenous drug use (injecting drugs into their veins, often using a dirty, used needle). Women faithful to their husbands have gotten AIDS from husbands who have cheated or husbands who were drug-addicted. Many people contracted AIDS through blood transfusions; Ryan White is an example. (These days, blood is collected and checked more carefully.) One teenaged girl, Kimberly Bergalis, got AIDS from her dentist, from normal dental work.

I suppose celibacy and marital faithfulness would drop dramatically the rate at which AIDS is spread. Also, sexual purity would greatly lessen your chance of getting AIDS--but it wouldn't eliminate it.

False. It is possible to be a carrier of the AIDS virus for a long time before it is detected, and one need not have sex in order to contract the HIV virus. You can be born with it and you can contract it by coming into contact with the bodily fluids of a carrier without knowing it - yes, that's rare, but it can happen.
