Check out some mustang magazines or your local trader magazines. And the oldest mustangs out there are 1964 1/2.
There is a trader magazine called ford trader that you can usually find in gas stations, convenience stores.

You can get a good deal if youre willing to go with an I6 AT for the first gen.
You can get a Fox body (especially an I4) for under 1000 easily though.
Mustang II's also are easy to find cheap.

eBay usually has some for a good price. Better chance is to check local listings (ie. newspaper) though-fewer potential buyers=better price.

If you are looking for "cheap" classics, then I wish you luck....supplies are drying up and these cars continue to rise in price....

The cheapest ones are the 80s mustangs....
