Don't worry about looks, worry about the performance. I've had windows vista (home premium) for almost a month. It came with my Dell notebook (e1505).

1. Vista is a memory HOG! Unless you have at leage 2gb (recommended) it won't install or it won't work at all.

2. If you're using your computer for everyday or entertainment use, like most of us, I would suggest Vista Home Premium (BASIC is not worth it). The next step up from premium is the vista business series which im pretty sure the average home user doesnt need.

3. Vista is STILL NEW- be prepared for incompatible programs. Upgrading from XP is not as easy as they make it appear to be.

4. Add that to the fact that certain computers have really weak processors so they will not be able to handle vista to begin with. Im not knocking celeron or amd or anything but there are much better ones out there. I'm on an intel dual core and its handling it well so far.

5. Last, advice for everyone- don't jump on the band wagon just because its new. All of the new users are basically TEST cases! We're the ones who deal with the tweaks, security issues, etc until it becomes 'perfected'. I personally don't mind using a brand new OS only because I have a lot of 'computer people' in my family so if something goes wrong, its not a big deal to me.

**Look into windows XP pro or just hang on to XP for now. Unless you have a BRAND NEW computer with enough RAM and an EXCELLENT processor, don't deal with Vista**

Hope that helps!

Could you list the specs of your computer? Are you sure it is your RAM limiting you and not your video card? 1 GB would definitely be enough, but 512 MB should be sufficient.

EDIT: Yeah, 348's pretty low, I wouldn't try to run Vista with anything less than 1 GB. However if your RAM is that low, your other components may not be up to par with what you really should be running Vista either. But yeah, upgrading the RAM will definitely help, though without the other specs, I can't guarantee it will fix your problem.

Honestly man, I would just buy some RAM cards on eBay for cheap. It's really worth it. It makes a world of difference in your performance and capabilities, AND you get to have the Aero features, 3D flip, etc.

Less than a GB of RAM is very bad, at least 2 GB is what MS recommends! If you have less than a GB, that is you issue, fix that first!
