Funny you should mention that, I was thinking that exact same thing when I read a math question someone had yesterday. I wondered how would a teacher even know that they didn't do their own homework? And will we have generations of ding-a-lings to come?

I enjoy many of the questions posted that seem to be homework and I hope that I answer them in a way that is educational and directed to the needs of that person.
If the student just wants to avoid the work, then it's bad for the student, but the student needs to take personal responsibility. If I'm able to answer a tricky question and that allows the student to do five other problems or write a more complete essay, then I'd say that's good.
Unfortunately, not every family helps children with homework, let alone provides a $200/month tutor.

You get what you pay for. Judging from the quality of answers that come up on questions like "Please help me with this Spanish assignment!" I imagine that people aren't really getting that good of grades if they copy answers from this site. Besides, they still won't know the material for the test. In that way, plagiarism is pretty much its own punishment.
When I give homework help, I will never just tell the person what to write as an answer. I would rather explain it to them, or perhaps solve an example problem that is similar to but not exactly the same as the problem they are dealing with. In this way, I can help them do better, but I'm not actually doing the homework for them.

I'm kind of torn about that section; I have two different opinions. I think that it's great that the kids have a source for help but I don't think that they should be on here cheating and trying to get all the answers to every question to their homework. They also need to put a little effort into their work - it's not that hard. I'd also rather not have them drop out of school because they couldn't get that one math problem; you know. I'm kind of torn about that section; I have two different opinions.

Seriously, it's ridiculous. It wouldn't be so bad if people gave HINTS about how to solve the problems, but they just give out the entire answer. Like the kids are going to learn anything that way... Ultimately, it's the kids who are getting shortchanged, because they're not learning, and they're not going to do well in the long run.

I dunno.. but considering how un-intelligent kids actually are these days.. maybe someone giving them the answer will actually stick in thier little brains.. so maybe it could be a good thing as well..
Its not really like any of them that ask for the answers here were ever going to actually be able to find the answer on thier own anyway ya know...

I think the idea of it is nice-helping- unfortunately a lot of people are so lazy and ask others to find the answers for them or even write their essays-and fellow yahoo people do it too!!

Y!A is a dream for me. I use it for the questions that really stump me, and it helps a lot. But then again, I'm in college, and not in grade/high school. It must be a breeze for them. Where was Y!A when I was younger?
