I'm always cautious about this, but can you get HIV by letting someone wear your gym clothes. I've recently heard that you can. I mean this is NOT from a reliable source like CDC, but from a middle class person. I'm extremely uneducated about HIV. I've also heard you can get HIV from dried blood. I heard that if you just touch dried blood the germs transfer to your hands and if you touch your eyes you will become infected. The reason I ask about this is because we're supposed to write a report on infectious diseases in health class about myths and facts on how the virus can be transferred. I may seem dumb asking these questions but I know nothing about Hiv. It would also help if you gave me other myths about Hiv. Thanks in advance!

I am a trained medical professional, so I am educated in this subject. No, you can not get HIV from wearing others gym clothes, it is nasty though & you risk catching something else, like an STD, pubic lice, jock itch/rash. HIV is only spread through the transfer of bodily fluids. And can not survive in an open air enviroment, so the dried blood myth is busted also. But, you should always be careful. use preventative measures if you come in contact with blood. Wear gloves, wash your hands, and never touch your face while working with bio-hazardous materials. To protect yourself from Hepatitis, HIV, and many other infectious diseases.

Who ever told you that you can get HIV by wearing someonse gym clothes is and idiot. That is entirely incorrect.

HIV when it leaves the body, (bleeding) it dies very quickly, like in about 2 minutes. You would need someone to pour buckets of infected blood over your hands to get HIV but only if you had an open wound. Skin is the best barrier against this Virus.

I would be more concerned about getting Hepatitis as this is around 100 times more infectious.

not at all..the only way you can get HIV is if actual exchange of bodily fluids occurs. As for the dried blood, depends on how long the blood has been out, because the virus would die if it is left withought nutrition. Even if the virus is not dead, you would have to stick it into your body and make sure that it survived the various defenses that your body has.

Check out the biblography on this site. You may find some interesting information in the articles quoted and you can look at most of them.

Ain't the internet grand.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

The HIV virus can NOT survive outside the human host for more than a few minutes. The ONLY way you can get AIDS is by SEXUAL, INTIMATE contact. PERIOD. End of story.

PLEASE don't spread this rumor. It only causes hysteria. Get the facts.
