I was wondering if anyone has had a child that has had this viral infection? My daughter was just diagnosed with this yesterday. And has this rash all over her body running a fever for 4 days and is miserable.I have been alternating motrin and tylenol along with warm baths but it doesn't help much From some articles I have read on the internet it isn't supposed to be this bad.

I have four kids and at the time they had it, it was mostly on their hands. It did travel to their bodies, but wasn't too bad. I haven't heard of it as bad as that either. I would try oatmeal baths. It's at the pharmacy, no prescription needed. It's called Aveeno bath. It comes in packets. You just put one into the tub with warm water and let her soak. Maybe if she's itchy, you could give her some Benadryl. Even if she's not too itchy, it will help her sleep. Good luck !!

The link I'm sharing with you below is from the Mayo clinic and it confirms everything you've read in terms of this not being serious. However, it does explain that Fifth disease can last up to 10 days and can recur over a period of a few weeks.

My personal experience as the mom of a very allergy-prone little boy has been that even though he can get a virus that isn't serious, when he does get a virus, he is very prone to also developing a bacterial infection (secondary infection) that does need antibiotic treatment.

So, I would say if your little one seems to be developing worse symptoms, don't hesitate to call the doctor and have her checked out.

Also, if you haven't tried it yet, try Aveeno Oatmeal Bath--even though the effects are not that long lasting, it does give the little ones some brief comfort for eveything from chicken pox to Fifth's. I've included a second link below so you can see the package, and this product is readily available at many drugstores.

My daughter had in when she was 5. Keep giving her pain meds. I remember my daughter had sores in her mouth from it also. Kids get it from school usually. Give her plenty of liquids and soft foods like jello, pudding, ice cream, soup. I just asked my daughter about it (she is now 14). She said it hurt her mouth to eat. It will have to run it's course about a week. If her fever is not gone by Friday early afternoon I would lake her back in before the weekend.I do remember it lasts a while. I hope she feels better soon.

My son had it and I don't remember him being miserable at all. He was just rashy but was normal otherwise. i think I would call the doctor back or go for a second opinion. It could be something else.

It can be a bear. It's actually a pretty common virus and all children react differently. Just keep altering meds and try to comfort her.
