Ok so I have had my lip ring for almost a full yr now. Ive never had any problem with it. It never got infected. It healed nicely. now though, it has a bit of an odor to it. I always clean my piercing and the ring itself and yet I cant get rid of this smell.
I dont have any puss like discharge, swelling, redness, sensitivity, or anything like that. Just the smell. Got any idea how i can get rid of this?

it could be due to the material of jewelry that you have in it. you probably have some sort of metal, i'll guess; and after a while that can cause that smell.. so can acrylics.. the best thing to try is something organic [they're really expensive, but worth it].. they are the best because they allow your piercing to breathe; therefore, they dont have that awful smell.

All healed piercings will get a build up on them which depending on gauge of the piercing, location of piercing and type of jewelry worn this discharge can be unnoticeable or be awful.

Usually poor quality jewelry is to blame for this smell being worse than normal and the build up is really just oils, dirt and dead skin and cells. Nothing harmful, just gross. I suggest getting a different material for jewelry (metals are best because cheap acrylics and plastics are very porous and can harvest bacteria in the pores of the material making it smell). Good luck.

Is it the same jewelry that you've had for the full year? And what is the quality of the jewelry? My girlfriend complained of the same thing, and it ended up being cheap jewelry. She uses only sterling silver, platinum or white gold now and says there's no smell.

what type of jewelry are you using? that is most likely the cause. i would try getting a new piece and see if that helps.

Did you try alcohol? That may help, but I am no expert, so you can go to the place where you got it periced, and they will tell you.
