They are no longer supported by Microsoft. I bought a timeshare and to look at the catalog of all the places I can exchange my timeshare for I need explorer 8 or something newer than what I have. That makes me mad. I have Netscape too but it is too old also. so, I have to buy a newer version and mine works fine for everything else. I know you can verify that it is authentic but that doesn't work. I have tried. My system is old and it's never worked better except that now I figure all newer companies will be going on to bigger and better and forcing us to buy to keep up. that is my opinion. I don't have XP and didn't know it that is what I should get or the new Vista? I am confused about the problems some are having. I'm not a gamer. So, any input would be helpful and any recomendations on where to buy for the best price and help if I need it. Thanks.

Your frustration is understandable. But technology moves so fast that even those who buy a new PC today, will be outdated within the year. All of the Internet applications are growing and changing too. This requires the end users (us) to adapt or be left behind.

Computer prices are low, which makes it very easy for people to get new PCs rather than spend the money to repair or upgrade. By the time you buy the OS and pay someone to upgrade memory, etc. you have tied up enough money to buy a new system.

I use a number of surplus sites to find good deals on new and refurbished PCs. Most of them come with Windows XP and the prices are reasonable. I have listed a couple of them below.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I'm facing the same problem. I have Windows 98 and need to upgrade soon. I'm going to wait a couple more months and hopefully the major bugs in Vista will be worked out. I'll buy a Vista system then.

I think you and I are too late to get in on XP.

The answer is easy. You can find any computer company or search through yahoo for it. I found the new java and messager and just downloaded it for free. Now the computer I use is always ready. You can also ask a friend of yours to loan you their's to do it. Toshiba computers alolg with others usually have a program that updates it for you. Check your system in the control panel and see if it has a updater for your. Anymore problems email me.

There are many free, reliable and up to date operating systems available. My favourite is UBUNTU (or XUBUNTU if the computer has less than 256MB of RAM). Once installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs provided by the open source community.
