he said he wanted to take a step back to when we were dating. He said he still liked me and still wanted to go out with me. But it's been 3 days and he hasnt called me to hang out. Was it a break up or is he just taking sometime alone? Im not gonna call him, just gonna wait if i know there's still a chance but this is killing me

I'm a 40 year old man. Take my word for it, when he said he wanted to go back to when you were dating, that means he wants the action without the commitment. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh. But it the truth. And it's the truth everytime it is said that way. You got serious and he couldn't hack it. He just wants a friend with benefits. Which is just a booty call too. I bet when he comes back he going want some more til next time. Wake up! Go find someone who actually cares about you if you want to be happy. Sex might be fun, but sex without emotion will leave you empty everytime.

Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. More than likely, it does mean breaking up. If I were you, I would make plans with your girlfriends, for dinner, movies, dancing, whatever y'all enjoy. Create a life for yourself that he can step back into or not. Create a life for yourself that you will be happy with if he chooses not to come back to you. In other words, create a world that doesn't revolve around him, but can include him if you choose to.

Usually taking a step back means slowing down a bit, but i'm also confused on why he hasn't called.

sounds like he's confused and does need some alone time. but its not right for him not to be upfront with you. he wants to have it both ways-to date you but not commit to you-and that situation almost always ends badly. he needs to make a decision. if i was you, i would stop seeing him until he can make up his mind for sure.

just don't let anything external have control over you, if it's meant to be it will come back to you. when you let it go , then he will get the vibe and call, that's what happens ussually.
