A hairstylist was trimming my hair a few years ago and while she was doing it, she said something like, "Hey Doris, come over here and check out this girl's hair!" When the other woman came, she said, "Look at it, it's so elastic." And I think she started stretching my hair (I couldn't see 'cause they were in the back ) and the other woman said, "Wow..." like she was amazed.

My question is, what were they doing (were they actually stretching it?), what does "elastic" mean, and is this a good or bad thing? How did she discover that my hair was "elastic" And what does this have to do with trimming my hair??

Someone said having elastic hair means your hair doesn't break easily or have split ends, but this isn't true for my hair... I have a lot of split ends actually, and the some of the ends of my hair break off every time I comb it. How do you explain this?

It means that your hair isn't brittle and won't break easily. Don't stress, it's a good thing. :)

elasticity in the hair refers to the amount of stretch in the hair. hair with good elasticity will stretch up to half its original length and return without breaking. too much elasticity is not a good thing (for example, if you stretch it and it does not return to its original length), and too little elasticity translates into brittle hair. you want to be right in the middle. trimming won't repair elasticity problems, but good deep conditioning will

yes elastic is a good thing...all that means is that your hair will stretch a long ways before breaking...that way you wont have as many split ends and broken hair.

i recently got a haircut (the woman really was a nut) and she told me that my hair is anorexic...not exactly sure what she meant, although i do have thin hair.
my hairstylist also told me some other pretty out-there things, so maybe take what she says with a grain of salt. :)
(lol or switch hairstylists...which is what i plan to do!)

this means your hair is in great shape. and i cant say that about most people hair. what she did was pull out a strand of you hair and kept pulling it to see if it would bend back w/out breaking.
