According to msn encarta on-line encyclopedia and dictionary, it is. This one is not like the wikipedia where anyone can edit it.

"tusked arctic sea mammal: a large sea mammal related to seals and sea lions, with tough wrinkled skin, large tusks, and bristly whiskers. Native to: Arctic."

Second link states that: "Walruses are native to the Arctic Ocean, from which they migrate in the winter, and are characterized by a thick durable skin and tusks in both males and females." You have to scroll way the heck down but it's there.

Can't find much information on the animal the theory of evolution states walruses evolved from other than that it too was an arctic animal. I came across it a few times doing research and now can't recall where I saw it.
