You will be welcomed to America with open arms if you say "I AM A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN!" Everyone will respect you, take care of you and treat you nice. People will listen to everyone of your opinions thoughtfully and respectfully even if it is crazy nonsense and superstition. (Don't forget to add "BORN AGAIN")
If you say you are a homosexual, you will be in a lot of trouble. People might try to hurt you. (There are certain groups of high school kids that will be your friend if you say loudly that you are homosexual but mainstream adults with money will treat you badly.)
People with money will treat you much better if you say you are a "Born Again Christian." That's where the money and security is. If you say you are a Christian, you can always find a place to stay and people will take care of you.
If you say you are a homosexual, they absolutely will not! (Other homosexuals may take care of you but it may not be the way you really like to be taken care of.)
The decision is your choice. If it were me, I'd just be myself. Don't ask and don't tell. Just be genuine and don't suck up to anyone...Christians or homosexuals.

There is no state religion in the USA so proclaim whatever you wish. Although gay people are not a federally protected group it is not against the law for gay people to enter the country. There are, believe it or not, some states in the country that still have sodomy laws, although they are rarely enforced. Generally, only answer the questions they ask you, do not offer any information. Keep it short & sweet.

I have lots of friends that are gay, so that is ok with me. However, very few friends that are Christians, so I will take the homosexual comment as not sounding as bad. Homosexuality is a fact of nature (see Bonobo chimps for example), but religion is something that people made up.

JFK, sadly, you would get a worse reaction for saying Christian, in the South, it would be the opposite. Then again, you shout anything in an airport and people are gonna take notice.
NYC has a very high # of homos and non-believers. Most of which fit both categories.
