My MIL comes over and we had some medications on the counter. She looked at them and then WROTE down the persecription. When my husband confronted her, she made pretend she wasnt doing anything. We usually keep all meds in the cabinet, but I KNOW she looks at them, I was thinking I could change the labels and write something like "backoffcyline" and when she looks at it online, she will see it is phony...Do I confront her or just keep hiding all the meds??

hide the meds for now, but if she doesn't back off i'd stop inviting her and make it clear that if she continues with this shady kind of behavior then she's no longer welcome in your home.

Maybe you can put a lock on your cabinet. That way she won't be able to snoop AND she'll get the idea at the same time that you are offended by her behavior. Her motives are probably good- she's probably just concerned about both of your health, but she doesn't have the right to go snooping, especially since you are married adults who have your own life & family now. You could mention that you're glad she has your well being in mind, but a person's medical history is PRIVATE history, that you will share if you want to.

It's your house. Leave a copy of the deed or lease agreement on the counter next time she visits with a big old sticky note that says, "Notice: it doesn't say (MIL's name)." Set some ground rules, sit down with her (your husband should be in on this too) to discuss them and then stick to them. Let her know there is no negotiating. She'll get pissy, but again, it's your house. She has no right to snoop around.

Your husband needs to buck up and have a good old confrontation with her. You can do all you want but only the child can stop a parent.

Well it seems that since your husband has confronted her and she lied about it, that is not a solution. I would call her on it if you see her doing it and put a note inside your medicine cabinet saying please do not invade our privacy. Make sure her name is on the note so she knows it is for her.

You're an adult, it's YOUR house - lay down the law. Let her know that ALL snoopers will not be invited back. Period.
