I will agree with P Ni Ka. It is just that most of the go-go dancers co me from the rural areas and had little education, so to earn a living to support their family, they turn to this job.

However, do not assume that the go-go bar girls are prostitute. They do not like it themselves but due to circumstances, they just bite the bullets. Thai culture had all along been that the women folk are the prime money earners, that is why they are willing to bite the bullets for these type of work. But underneath, if they can find a suitable partner to help support her family, they will give up this job altogether. To them, it is a way of supporting their family, and their family may not know what job they are doing.

So treat the go-go girls with respect. Be nice to them. If you fancy any, ask her by her number. She will keep you company and her drinks are her commission. If you like, you can buy her flowers if she sings/dance or give her tips.

If you like more than that, talk to her. Get her consent. This is the gentleman way to negotiate a deal with her. If you take her out for a meal during her working time, you have to pay the bar for her absence. After bar times, is her own time and is up to her what she wants with you.

Bottomline is, treat the Thai ladies with respect. They have feelings too, like you and me.

Stay sober. Drunken behaviour is meant for the street, so you will get thrown out if you get too drunk.

In nearly every go go bar the girls wear little numbers so it is easier for you to tell the staf which one you want. If this is not prostitution I do not know what is.
General principle is that if you want one of the girls you either wave to her, buy her a drink or ask one of the staff. You will need to pay a bar fine of around 500 baht to get her free from her dancing job and then negotiate with her for whatever else you want. Likely cost is going to be between one and two thousand baht.
I have lived here 12 years and seen it all.

Sorry Rick......the girls dancing ARE prostitutes in every single go-go I've ever been to...and I've been to a lot

However, if they come sit with you, show respect.....it is considered very rude if you touch them in front of everybody

If they ask you to buy them a drink, you must know that it will be about 120 bht, even though it is probably just a soda...
the reason for this is....they get a certain percentage of the 120 bht in their own pockets at the end of the night ( their name will be on the bill) so even though you dont take them home with you they still get some money for themselves.....

Tip the girls, observe the house rules or be thrown out. Some places don't let you touch the girls. tip the dj if he plays a tune you like. don't go crazy and try to marry one, you'll just annoy her (or him), Thailand has alot of he-she's in their bars. Don't get drunk and forget where you're at. The cops could haul you off or worse you could get robbed,or both. Bottom line: keep your head screwed on straight and don't make trouble. The dancers appreciate you're tips. One might even take you home, that's cool...but be careful.

assuming that you actually mean go go, not stripper.. go go dancers are just chicks that dance to get the mood going and add to the eye candy. sometimes they interact with other people at the club, most of the time they dont. i guess that would depend on the bar.. but they aren't strippers if thats what you are thinking. they are not going to take off their clothes, and if you try to cop a feel you will likely be escorted out.

While there is a lot of drinking, Thais don't like people (especially foreigners) getting stinking drunk - keep your drinking under control.

The dancers are there to dance - not for sex. Don't assume they are prostitutes.

Don't touch the dancers - especially on the head or any sexual part (breast, hips, pelvis, etc.).

Don't whistle and act crazy; just enjoy watching the girls dance. If you really like one - and she makes eye contact or talks with you - don't try anything in the club. Ask to meet her when she gets off work.

Remember, even in Thailand, they have big, ugly bouncers!

Ya, Rick is wrong. Coyote dancers are not necassarily prostitutes, but go-go girls are. The only thing I'd say is, don't take off your clothes and try to dance on stage with the girls. They don't appreciate it although some idiots do it occasionally.
