Hi, I have a female cat whom we keep in the house. I guess somehow the neigborhood male cats have found out and have been spraying outside our front and back doors. It's really nasty and I was wondering if there was something I could do to keep them from spraying or just keep them away from our house. Thanks so much for your help!

The only solution I know to work is to spread human hair on the ground where the cats are spraying. Since you'll need quite a bit, visit a hair salon and ask them if you can fill up a bag with the stuff they sweep up off the floor. I'm not sure exactly why cats avoid the area where you spread the hair, but this was the only solution that worked when my friend had the same problem in a sandy flower bed under his window.

It's also possible that the neighborhood cats only see your female cat through the window. Cats & dogs will spray to mark their territory (it's a male competition thing), so they may not be trying to attract your femaile when they do this. Try closing the curtain where your cat likes to hang out, or somehow keep her away from the window.

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!

Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover
is the best at removing odors like this. It's guaranteed and permanently eliminates odors. In my experience, it's been the only thing that actually works, but you've got to follow the directions completely. Cleaning the area the cats are spraying with it may stop the behavior all together. If it doesn't, consider the possibility that you didn't completely get it all. You might also want to try leaving an open bottle of vinegar, or in a few surrounding bowls, right outside your doors.

Only sterilisation of your cat will work. She is the one attracting them.
You can try washing the sprayed areas with vinegar and rubbing over with bicarb soda, to remove the smell. (It's the chemical reaction here that removes the protein of the spray or urine. Vinegar alone won't do it.)
There are also a few protein removing pet cleaners on the market, any product that is for pet accidents on carpets will do the trick. Only vinegar / bicarb is cheaper and does the same.
But this won't stop the toms returning. They will find a different place to spray, and you can't have moth balls hanging everywhere!! (Which smell is worse??) LOL
I've also tried lemon juice and rind, that works but only for a short time.
If you know who owns the toms, you could approach them asking for help. If all else fails, tell them you'll send them the cleaning bill :-D
If you are really fed up, call the ranger to have them picked up. I adore cats, but people need to take responsibility for their pets and that includes ensuring their toms are either neutered or restricted to their properties. If you've had toms spray your house, you would agree. It stinks!!

There is a product that is sold at all pet supply stores called "Nature's Miracle" stain & odor removal. It's good for almost any surface, & not only does it take away the odor, but it also deters the cats from spraying there again. Follow the directions on the bottle. The only thing is you may have to use it a few times, especially after it rains or something.

It looks like you have gotten most every answer under the sun on this one. The correct ones are the ones telling you to spay your cat. The males can smell her and will continue their rounds until you spay her. This is natural for them to mark their territory (interest), so to speak.

As for the urine odor you got lots of answers on that one as well. The ones I knew of were the Icky-Poo stuff and the vinegar. ServiceMaster used to make a good urine removal liquid. Not sure if they still do. Male spray is atrocious and hard to remove. Just use some elbow grease but not until you spay your girl or it will be useless.

Good Luck!! :)

Its a territorial thing that all cats do...even in the wild. You will not stop the male from spraying. Do you know who his owner is. Is your female fixed? You can try ( and this stinks really bad but he may get the hint) Is take some ammonia and spray it where hes spraying. When he sprays hes trying to leave a scent yours has to be stronger than his to discourage him, so make the ammonia strong if you can stand the smell. If that dosent work ..... Then sadly there is the nickel cure. ;-(

I have tried and so far so good a product called Sol U Mel from a company called Melaleuca. It is one of those order from a cataloge. It is a all natural product used for disinfecting and killing germs. It is very good at other things, I use so many of there products and they are reasonable in price. You should be able to do a search on the net for it.

I have a 9 mth old female that lives in the house also.

I've had success with Cat Repellent, if you do a search several will come up. The stuff I used came in a spray can, you spray it in the area you want to keep the cats away from, and it worked pretty well for me.
