I am interested in joining the Marines as a Scout/Sniper, but I don't know what rank it goes up to. If I were to join as an officer, would this training still be available to me? If it is, what sort of things are required of a sniper officer?

Thanks for the help.

Scout/snipers start out as basic infantryman. You can request to go to scout/sniper once you are assigned to your unit. There are standards that are required. E-7 is the highest rank in the mos. There are no officer billets, scout/sniper platoon usually falls under the S-2 intelligence officer.

First of all, you should contact your local Marine Recruiter and talk to them about this, because they know everything there is to know about every MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) in the Marine Corps. I am a Lance Corporal, my MOS is 0311 (Rifleman). I've been a United States Marine for 6 months and 13 days.
Secondly, you can't join the Marine Corps to be a Scout Sniper. If you really want to be a Scout Sniper (which is extremely difficult to be accepted to and actually pass the training school for), you would join the Marine Corps with an infantry MOS, most likely 0311, and then apply to the Scout Sniper Program after you graduate boot camp. Also, when you're at boot camp, you'd have to shoot Rifle Expert on the range to even be considered for the Scout Sniper Program in the first place, and you have to run a 1st Class PFT (Physical Fitness Test).
Thirdly, you can only be a Scout Sniper as an enlisted Marine. Marine officers can be in the infantry, but there are no Scout Sniper officers in the Marine Corps.
Anyways, if you really want to learn more about this, contact your local Marine Recruiter like I said and they'll be able to answer more questions about it than I can. Good luck with your endeavours and I hope you get the opportunity to become one of us someday...if you leave Parris Island and if you graduate recruit training.

I don't think officers have an exact job such as sniper, they are the platoon leader, and probably have a knowledge of every position so they can lead them.

And even if you do go into the Marines as infantry, there is no guarantee that you will become a sniper or even a rifleman for that matter. You could go in hoping to be a sniper and end up a mortar man.

Aim high for what you want but don't be crushed if you don't get it.

From my experiences ( I was not a Sniper) I have never seen nor heard of an Officer Sniper. I believe it is only an Enlisted Position.
I have and do know many Marines, Officers, Enlisted and Snipers...none of the Snipers ever referred to an officer

Check with your recruiter - becoming a sniper is not easy. There are no officer snipers. My only comment is that you'd better have a lot icewater in your veins and your head on straight when you get ready to pull the trigger on an unsuspecting human target. The snipers I've met all scared the crap out of me...I honestly think that most them were psychotic, but functional.

A spotter is a Scout Sniper. The spotter is usually the better Scout Sniper out of the two. He calls out the targets, distance, etc. If you have Scout Sniper as a secondary mos it will only be used when required. Meaning your doing you primary mos first and secondary when it's needed.

I am a 34 year veteran of the us army retired as a command sergeant major I have a neighbor who claims to have served in the usmc as a captain and scout sniper. I have told him to cut the crap it is the biggest pile of bs and an insult to the corps. I am convinced the only thing he has shot is a big pile of BS.

theres not a rank specifically for a sniper, and you just cant enter as an officer, you start off as a cadet, then private first class, lance corporal, corporal, sergeant, staff sergeant, gunnery sergeant, first sergeant, master sergeant, sergeant major, and master gunnery sergeant. for an officer it goes second luitenent, first luitenent, captain, major, luitenent colonel, and colonel. do some research before you join just to make sure its what you want to do.
